Betting on the St. Louis Cardinals
Throughout its storied history, the Cardinals have built a reputation predicated on consistent success. That keeps the fans happy and keeps bettors coming back when people doubt them.
St. Louis Cardinals Franchise History
The Cardinals franchise originated as the St. Louis Brown Stockings in 1882. The team went through a few names – Brown Stockings, Browns, and Perfectos – before landing on the Cardinals in 1900.
The Cardinals were one of baseball’s earliest juggernauts, winning their first title in 1886, and another six from 1926-1946. The latter part of that run came via the terrific play of Hall of Famer Stan Musial.
Despite still having Musial in the lineup, the Cardinals failed to reach the playoffs in the 1950s. Fortunately, the start of the new decade resurrected the franchise. St. Louis tacked on two more World Series titles in the ‘60s behind Bob Gibson.
The Cardinals experienced more success in the ‘80s on the back of their show-stopping shortstop Ozzie Smith. Fast forward to the 2000s and Albert Pujols’ arrival. Pujols, one of the greatest hitters in Major League Baseball history, led St. Louis to championships in 2006 and 2011.
Since Pujols’ departure, the Cardinals have remained a mainstay in the MLB playoffs.
⚾ Betting on the Cardinals in Missouri ⚾
As it stands, sports betting is finally legal in Missouri. It is launching sometime in 2025.
The Show Me State’s professional baseball, hockey, football, and soccer teams all voiced their approval of legal betting. Even the Cardinals’ President, Bill DeWitt III, expressed his belief that legal sports betting will greatly benefit Missouri.
DeWitt said legalization and launch would result in a “more engaging fan experience for our fans while providing an important source of revenue for the state of Missouri.”
When Missouri caps off this momentum in 2025, bettors can expect to see something like the following when placing a wager on their hometown Cardinals:
- St. Louis Cardinals -160
- Chicago Cubs +140
In this example, the Cardinals are taking on their rival, the Cubs, and they are -160 favorites on the moneyline.
Betting on a -160 favorite requires a bettor to wager $160 in order to make a $100 profit on their bet. Inversely, betting on a +140 underdog would require a bettor to wager $100 in order to make a $140 profit.
