Despite still having Musial in the lineup, the Cardinals failed to reach the playoffs in the 1950s. Fortunately, the start of the new decade resurrected the franchise. St. Louis tacked on two more World Series titles in the ‘60s behind Bob Gibson.
The Cardinals experienced more success in the ‘80s on the back of their show-stopping shortstop Ozzie Smith. Fast forward to the 2000s and Albert Pujols’ arrival. Pujols, one of the greatest hitters in Major League Baseball history, led St. Louis to championships in 2006 and 2011.
Since Pujols’ departure, the Cardinals have remained a mainstay in the MLB playoffs.
