Betting on the San Francisco Giants

As another West Coast MLB team with strong East Coast roots, the San Francisco Giants have always enjoyed a strong fan base. In recent years, the interest in betting on the Giants in legal US markets is also on the rise.

San Francisco Giants Overview

The Giants’ franchise has roots that go all the way back to 1883 and New York City. Following a brief two-year stint as the Gothams, the Giants became a mainstay in the Big Apple until 1958.

During that run, the Giants won seven World Series titles as one of the most popular teams in the league. As part of MLB’s western expansion, the Giants moved to their new residence in San Francisco for the 1958 season.

Just four years later, the San Francisco Giants qualified for their first World Series as a West Coast team. They lost the 1962 championship to the New York Yankees in thrilling fashion with the series going the full seven games.

The Giants were just getting started as a premier MLB franchise playing out of the NL West. Following a second World Series loss in 1989, they came into their own with three MLB world titles in five seasons starting in 2010.

Manager Bruce Bochy was at the helm for all three World Series wins. Aubrey Huff, Pablo Sandoval and Buster Posey were three of the more prominent members of the team at that time.

Facing the Kansas City Royals in the 2014 World Series, that showdown went the full seven games in dramatic fashion. Pitcher Madison Bumgarner earned Most Valuable Player honors for his role in the championship run.

The most famous San Francisco Giants’ player of all time was Willie Mays. He started his MLB career in 1951 with the team still in New York. Other notables on that list include Barry Bonds, Willie McCovey and Juan Marichal.

The Giants’ most bitter rivals are the Los Angeles Dodgers. More than a few memorable series have taken place over the years. More recently, the rivalry against the San Diego Padres has heated up as another NL West team in California.

With a reputation for scoring, betting the OVER on the MLB total line is popular for San Francisco games. If the total line was set at 10 runs against the Dodgers, the two teams would have to score a combined 11 runs or more to win that bet.

⚾ Betting on the San Francisco Giants in California ⚾

Betting on the Giants in California remains prohibited at this time. While tribal gaming at casinos has been legal for years, sports betting is not a gaming option. An effort to legalize in-state sportsbooks is underway via a possible California voter referendum in November of 2022.

The Giants will occasionally play interleague series against the AL’s Seattle Mariners. That being the case, San Francisco fans could bet on those games at a legal retail sportsbook in the state of Washington. Online betting in California remains illegal.
