Betting on the Cincinnati Reds

The Reds are one of the oldest franchises in professional baseball history, with their origins dating back to 1882. Somewhat surprisingly, the team has remained in Cincinnati the entire time.

Cincinnati Reds Franchise History

In 1882, the Red Stockings brought professional baseball to Cincinnati. Despite the limited league size in the early days of baseball, the Reds failed to win very often. They did, however, have two World Series titles by 1940.

After a dormant stretch from the 1940s through the 1960s, the Reds burst back onto the scene in the ‘70s. In the first year of the new decade, Johnny Bench and Pete Rose led the club back to the World Series where they fell to the Orioles.

Joe Morgan’s arrival coincided with the team’s next World Series appearance in ’72 where they were defeated in seven games.

A few seasons later, the Reds climbed over the proverbial hump, twice, in the form of back-to-back World Series championships in ’75 and ’76.

Since the franchise’s borderline dominant run in the 1970s, success has been fleeting. The Reds did claim another World Series trophy in 1990, but that title was surrounded by postseason absences on either side.

Barry Larkin led that club, and Ken Griffey Jr. played the back half of his career in Cincinnati, but he wasn’t quite the same star he was in Seattle. The Reds are still looking to establish similar consistency to those memorable ‘70s clubs.

Betting on the Reds in Ohio

On December 22, 2021, House Bill 29 was signed into law by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, legalizing retail and online sports betting in the Buckeye State.

The Ohio Casino Control Commission laid the groundwork for the state’s legal betting market, which launched on Jan. 1, 2023!

Below is an example of what Reds bettors can expect:

-          Cincinnati Reds -150

-          Detroit Tigers +130

Here, the Reds are favorites on the moneyline. -150 indicates that a bettor would need to place $150 on the Reds in order to net $100 with a victory.

Likewise, if the Tigers win the game, a bettor who wagered $100 would net $130 with a victory by the underdog.

Cincinnati Reds Sportsbook Partnerships

The Reds announced a partnership with WynnBET in June 2021. Despite playing its home games in Ohio, the Reds partnered with WynnBET, a sportsbook that had launched in Indiana and was making a strong expansion effort in the Hoosier State at the time.

For the Reds, the deal brought publicity and fan engagement in the form of promotions through WynnBET. Fans had the chance to win game tickets and memorabilia through the WynnBET app.
