Betting on the Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens have quickly become the most popular professional sports franchise in Maryland with in-state sports betting fans. The Ravens also remain a very popular NFL team across multiple legal sports betting markets in the US.
Baltimore Ravens Overview
The origins of professional football in Baltimore dates back to the Colts’ franchise. They joined the NFL in 1953 and won two league titles in 1958 and 1959 with Weeb Ewbank as head coach.
Don Shula was the head coach of the team when the Colts played in Super Bowl III. The stunning 16-7 loss to the New York Jets remains one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history.
Team owner Robert Irsay stunned Baltimore fans in 1984 when he decided to move the Colts’ franchise to Indianapolis. The NFL recognized the huge loss to such an iconic football town and gave Baltimore a new league franchise in 1996.
As the Ravens, the new team went on to win Super Bowl XXXV on Jan. 28, 2001 by beating the New York Giants 34-7. Brian Billick was the head coach of that team. Baltimore made it back to the Super Bowl in 2012 with John Harbaugh as head coach. In Super Bowl XLVII, the Ravens outlasted the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 in a thriller.
Baltimore is a fixture in the AFC North Division along with the Pittsburgh Steelers as its biggest rival. There is also no love lost with the Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals as the other two teams in that division.
Ironically enough, a heated rivalry with the Indianapolis Colts never really materialized. However, there are still some die hard NFL fans in Baltimore that might have something to say about that.
One fun way to bet on Ravens’ games is using the NFL total line. If the total line is set at 48 points against the Steelers, the wager would be on the OVER or UNDER on the combined points scored by both teams in that game. Read our article here on how to bet totals to learn more.
