Betting on the Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks have been a popular NFL team in the state of Washington for decades now. Read our info below on the team history and how to bet the Seahawks odds.
Seattle Seahawks Franchise History
The Seahawks didn’t make a sizable splash in the NFL right away. From its inaugural season in 1976 to the start of the 2003 season, Seattle made the playoffs just five times.
Coach Mike Holmgren took the reins in 1999, and while it took a few years, he righted the ship with the help of quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and running back Shaun Alexander.
With those three leading the way, the Seahawks rattled off five straight playoff appearances in the mid-2000s, including a Super Bowl appearance. Unfortunately, Seattle infamously fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL, a game known for questionable calls from the referees.
Following Holmgren’s departure in 2009, the team entered a short stint of mediocrity until they drafted Russell Wilson in the fourth round in the 2012 NFL Draft.
With Wilson at the helm, the Seahawks reached new heights. In his second year as the starter, Wilson, alongside famed running back Marshawn Lynch, brought the Lombardi Trophy to Seattle for the first time.
Seattle was in position to win a second consecutive title the following year, but Wilson threw one of the most infamous interceptions in Super Bowl history.
Patriots’ cornerback Malcom Butler picked off Wilson’s pass in the end zone with under a minute remaining, giving Tom Brady and the Patriots another Super Bowl win.
Betting on the Seattle Seahawks in Washington
Governor Jay Inslee signed HB 2638 into law in March of 2021, and retail sports betting has been fully operational since the start of the 2021 NFL season.
There is a plethora of retail tribal casinos for prospective bettors to choose from in Washington State, but online betting is not yet legal.
Sports fans in Washington can play daily fantasy sports (DFS) or at social sportsbooks like Fliff, Thrillzz, and Rebet.
While the state is making an effort to legalize online betting, it would likely be legal only through retail sportsbooks. Some retail sportsbooks have already used geolocation technology to allow bettors to place wagers through an app or website while on its physical property.
A Seahawks fan looking to place a wager on their favorite team could expect to find something like this at the betting window:
- Seahawks +3.5
- 49ers -3.5
Here, the Seahawks are 3-point underdogs against the San Francisco 49ers. A Seahawks backer needs them to lose the game by fewer than 4, or win outright.
If the 49ers defeat the Seahawks by at least 4 points, a Seahawks spread wager would settle as a loss.
