Betting on the Montreal Canadiens
An NHL team with a really funny yet apt name is the Montreal Canadiens. But, the Canadiens also have one of the best records of any team in the National Hockey League. To find out more information including info on Montreal Canadiens betting, this is your guide.
Montreal Canadiens History
The Montreal Canadiens are officially known as le Club de Hockey Canadien as well as colloquially as the Habs. They are a Montreal-based member of the National Hockey League in which they compete in the Eastern Conference as a member of the Atlantic Division. Starting in 1996, the Montreal Canadiens have played their home games at Bell Centre.
Prior to then, the team played at the Montreal Forum for seven decades. The Montreal Canadiens were founded over a hundred years ago in 1909. This makes them the only existing NHL club that predates the found of the National Hockey League. They are one of the oldest professional sports franchises in North America.
The team is one of the “Original Six” teams that made up the NHL starting in 1942. This was until the 1967 NHL expansion. They are the last Canadian team to have won the Stanley Cup Championship, back in the 1992-1993 season.
The Canadiens have the honor of having won the Stanley Cup Championship more times than any other NHL team, with twenty four championships under their belt. This includes twenty three victories since the founding of the NHL and twenty two since 1927, when NHL teams were declared the only ones eligible to compete for the Stanley Cup. The Canadiens even had the most championship titles won by a team of any of the four North American sports until 1999.
Some of the most notable players for the Canadiens have been Steve Shutt, Guy Lafleur, Pierre Larouche, Jacques Lemaire, Ken Dryden, Serge Savard, Larry Robinson, Guy Lapoint, Pete Mahovlich, Bob Gainey, and Yvan Cournoyer.
A very popular bet to place on NHL hockey games is a moneyline bet. A moneyline bet is based around who will be victorious in a face off. Here is an example of what a moneyline bet would look like:
- Edmonton Oilers: -130
- Calgary Flames: +130
With this example, the Edmonton Oilers would be the favored team to win, with odds of -130. That means for every $1 you hope to win, you need to risk $1.30, to wager $130 to win $100. The other team in this game who are the underdogs, the Calgary Flames, has odds of +130. That means for every $1 risked, you could win $1.30, to bet $100 to win $130.
