Betting on the Winnipeg Jets
Canada is known for its huge love of hockey and all things hockey. So, the fact that the Winnipeg Jets are a popular Canadian hockey team should not surprise you. If you’re interested in placing wagers on the Jets, this is the place to learn all about it.
History of the Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets is a hockey team that is a little bit on the newer side when it comes to the NHL. The franchise competes in the National Hockey League and is owned by True North Sports & Entertainment. The team is a member of the Central Division in the Western Conference. The team plays their home games at Canada Life Centre.
On June 25, 1997, the Winnipeg Jets were first established, only back then they were called the Atlanta Thrashers. The team’s first season in the NHL was the 1999-2000 season. In May 2011, True North Sports & Entertainment bought the franchise and located it to Winnipeg before the 2011-2012 season.
The Jets were the first NHL franchise to relocate since 1997, when the Hartford Whalers became the Carolina Hurricanes. The Jets were renamed after the original WHA/NHL team in Winnipeg. That team relocated following the 1995-1996 season and was renamed the Phoenix Coyotes.
In 1971, Winnipeg was actually granted one of the founding franchises in the World Hockey Association. Many of the WHA’s teams had folded by 1979, however a select few were absorbed into the NHL. These included the Winnipeg Jets, the Quebec Nordiques, the Hartford Whalers, and the Edmonton Oilers all as part of the WHA-NHL merger.
Some of the most recognizable players that have been on the Jets include Andrew Ladd, Dustin Byfuglien, Patrik Laine, and Blake Wheeler. The Winnipeg Jets do not have super intense rivalries established the way other franchises do. But, they have had rivalries with the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers.
A pretty popular bet that is placed on NHL games is a moneyline bet. A moneyline bet is set around the team that will be the victors in the match up. Here is an example of what this type of wager could look like:
- Winnipeg Jets: -120
- Calgary Flames: +120
With this example, the favored team to triumph appears to be the Winnipeg Jets with odds of -120. That means for every $1 one hopes to win, one would need to risk $1.20, to bet $120 to win $100. The underdog team in this match up, the Calgary Flames, has odds of +120. That means for every $1 risked, one could win $1.20, to wager $100 to win $120.
