Betting on the Los Angeles Kings
In a city filled with stars, the Kings have shined bright in the last decade, making them a popular bet across the country.
Los Angeles Kings Franchise History
With a history dating back to the 1960s, the Kings are one of the oldest NHL franchises. The team was a part of the first NHL expansion, when the league doubled in size, adding six teams to the Original Six.
The early years were rocky for the Kings, but the franchise strung together 17 playoff appearances in 20 years from ’74-’93. In 1993, under Barry Melrose, the Kings reached the Stanley Cup Finals, where they fell to the Canadiens 4-1.
It wasn’t until 2012 that the Kings captured their first Stanley Cup, when they knocked off the New Jersey Devils and became the first 8-seed in NHL history to win a title.
Just two seasons later, the Kings won again, snagging two Stanley Cup Finals trophies in three years. They miraculously won each of their first three series in seven games, before defeating the New York Rangers in five games in the championship.
👑 Betting on the Los Angeles Kings in California 👑
Sports betting is currently illegal in California. If California were to legalize online sports betting, it would immediately position itself as one of the nation’s leaders.
Some California supporters believe the state should approach the legal betting market cautiously, incrementally legalizing various forms of wagering.
Others are calling for the Golden State to go zero-to-one-hundred and allow the titans of the industry to launch their platforms as soon as possible.
How it all shakes out remains to be seen, but if Californians are lucky enough to bet on their Los Angeles Kings legally in the near future, they may see something like this at the sportsbook or on their phone:
- Kings -1.5
- Sharks +1.5
Here, the Los Angeles Kings are favored by a goal-and-a-half over its in-state rival, the San Jose Sharks. Kings’ bettors need LA to win the game by at least 2 goals. If the Kings win by 1 goal, or lose outright, the wager loses.
Although there is no sports betting in California just yet, there are some fun DFS apps and social sportsbooks to use. Here are some of our favorites for Kings fans:
