Betting on the Minnesota Wild
Minnesotans love their hockey. Luckily for them, The Minnesota Wild franchise made itself a mainstay in the NHL playoffs in the back half of the 2010s.
As a result, fans flock to the arena, and bettors flock to the sportsbook to get action on Minnesota Wild games.
Minnesota Wild Franchise History
In 2000, the Wild brought the NHL back to Minnesota seven years after the North Stars headed south to Dallas. The Wild, along with the Blue Jackets, pushed the league to 30 total teams.
The Wild held the title of youngest NHL team for 17 years until the addition of the Golden Knights in 2017.
Since their inception, the Wild have been relatively successful, but they haven’t been able to get over the hump. In the late 2000s, Minnesota’s hockey franchise made consecutive Quarterfinals appearances and won the Northwest division.
Unfortunately for Wild fans, that’s as much postseason success as the team would muster entering the 2020s. From 2013-2021, however, the Wild only missed the playoffs once, suggesting the team might be building something more sustainable.
The Minnesota Wild are still searching for their first Stanley Cup.
🌲 Betting on the Wild in Minnesota 🌲
Sports betting is currently illegal in Minnesota. While some legislators in the state have expressed support for legalization, there hasn’t been a lot of tribal support.
A bill in the Minnesota Senate in 2020 included sports betting, but it was limited to just Indian casino properties. Unfortunately, that still didn’t garner immense support from local tribes.
There are rumblings that a new bill with sports betting plans has a fair chance at passing, but it’s likely that any bill would support retail betting only.
It may not be until closer to the middle of the 2020s that Minnesota gains traction in legalizing online wagering.
Opening up the state to retail betting could, the very least, lay the groundwork for expansion into the mobile space in the future.
When legal sports betting does eventually launch in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Wild fans can expect to see betting lines that look similar to this:
- Minnesota Wild -1.5
- Colorado Avalanche +1.5
In this hypothetical, the Wild are favored by 1.5 goals over the Colorado Avalanche. A bettor backing the Wild on the puckline needs Minnesota to win the game by at least two goals.
If the Wild win by one, or lose, the bettor’s wager settles as a loss.
Although there are no sportsbooks in Minnesota, there are still some fun DFS apps to play on. Here are some our favorite for Wild fans to use:
