MLB PLAYER PROP BETS - WEDNESDAY'S PROPS

Our MLB Player Prop Bets are available for Wednesday, May 1 and for today's slate, we're focusing on the below matchups:

For the above matchups, our experts have selected MLB Player Prop Bets on the below individuals:

  • Yankees P Luis Gil
  • Astros P Justin Verlander
Luis Gil Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-135)

Grabbing this now before it jumps to 6.5, as we are seeing it at much higher juice on other books. Gil has topped this number in all 5 of his starts this season. This Baltimore team is no cakewalk, and they've done a good job limiting strikeouts, but one key thing to note is how effective Gil has been against lefties, especially in the strikeout department. Overall, Gil's strikeout rate is sitting at 32.4%, and against lefties, it's even higher (35.9%). The Orioles are projected to roll out 6 lefties, 3 of whom have a K rate north of 21% against RHP since the start of last season. The RotoGrinders projections have Gil topping this by a full strikeout, and I agree, so give me the over on 5.5 strikeouts.

Justin Verlander Under 5.5 Strikeouts (-135)

Verlander got there last time out against a Cubs lineup that ended up being more strikeout-heavy than expected. Shouldn't have that issue with Cleveland.

Even with a good start against the Cubs, his CSW% is still down at 24.3%, which is his worst mark since 2008. It's only been two outings, but he was also showing signs of decline last season. Verlander is coming off a season with his worst K% (21.5%) since 2015. His swinging-strike rate fell below 10% for the first time in 10 years. His velocity is down about 1 MPH on all of his pitches.

Cleveland strikes out at the 4th-lowest rate vs. RHP. Tonight's projected lineup has just two hitters with K% above 20% against RHP since the start of last season.

What Are MLB Prop Bets?

MLB props are wagers that can be placed on individual players or events that occur during a baseball game. These bets are typically more specific than traditional bets on the outcome of the game, such as the moneyline, over-under or run-line wagers.

Some common MLB prop bets include:

  • Player Props: These bets focus on individual players' performance, such as how many hits a batter will have, how many strikeouts a pitcher will record, or how many stolen bases a baserunner will attempt.
  • Game & Team Props: These bets focus on specific events that could happen during a game, such as which team will score first, how many total runs will be scored, or whether there will be a home run in the first inning.

Prop bets can be a fun and exciting way to add some variety to your MLB betting. They can also be a good way to target specific players or teams that you have an edge on.

Here is an example of a MLB prop bet:

Will Aaron Judge hit a home run in today's game against the Astros?

This bet is a yes/no proposition, and the odds will depend on how likely the sportsbook thinks it is that Judge will hit a home run. If you think Judge is likely to go deep, you would bet "yes" and collect your winnings if he does hit a home run. If you think he is unlikely to hit a home run, you would bet "no" and collect your winnings if he does not hit a home run.

Prop bets can be a fun and profitable way to enjoy MLB betting. By understanding the different types of prop bets that are available, you can find bets that you are confident in and that fit your betting style.
