F1 2023: The High-Octane Cost Of Spectating
With almost all liveries launched for the 2023 season, the wait is now for lights out in Bahrain, to officially start all proceedings for the 2023 F1 season.
The 2023 calendar will have 23 races and we will be seeing three races in the US this time out, with the Las Vegas Grand Prix making its debut.
Of course, the demand to see F1 live is at an all time high and that is reflected in the price to watch the pinnacle of motorsport. Along with that, F1's Netflix documentary, Drive to Survive, continues to garner interest though a recent study showed that the golf focused documentary, Full Swing, received more attention and positive reviews.
We analyzed Grandstand ticket prices, hotel and AirBnB prices as well as the cost of moderately priced meals to determine which Grands Prix are the cheapest to attend, on average, and which ones are the most expensive.

The most expensive Grand Prix experience
Monaco, unsurprisingly, is the most expensive Grand Prix that money can buy. According to our analysis, the average cost of the Monaco Grand Prix is a whopping $7,789.42 where the biggest expense comes in terms of accommodation. The average cost of accommodation is $6500.69 in Monte Carlo and food isn’t cheap either, costing about $241.035.
Monaco’s high prices can be lowered if one is willing to stay in Nice instead. Accommodation on average, will cost about $1,331.94 that brings the overall average cost to $2,620.66 - significantly lesser.
The second most-expensive Grand Prix experience is the United States GP in Texas, with the average overall cost at $4,946.83 followed by the Canadian GP ($4,288.51).

The Las Vegas Grand Prix sees F1 return to the city for the first time since 1984. This is one GP where the ticket prices for the grandstand were not available so we used general admission ticket prices and the average cost comes to $2,756.94.
Grands Prix that are easy on the pocket
With an average cost of $1,042.56, the Brazilian Grand Prix will be the easiest on your wallets. A grandstand ticket costs $642.756, the average stay will cost $339.92 and food will come to $59.87.
The second budget-friendly option is Bahrain where the average cost comes to $1,253.09 followed by Saudi Arabia where the average cost is $1,853.91.

Details could change when tickets are released for more Grands Prix
In our analysis, there are six Grands Prix where tickets have not been released yet - the Japanese GP, the Italian GP, the Emilia Romagna GP, the Qatar GP and the Miami GP.
The latter two, considering their costs last year, are likely to be one of the most expensive F1 experiences when ticket prices are released.
Methodology
- We sourced grandstand ticket prices from F1 Experiences
- For the Las Vegas GP, due to unavailability of grandstand prices, we used general admission prices
- We used bookings.com to determine average hotel prices and AirBnB for it’s prices
- Tickets for the following GPs have not been released - Italian, Emilia Romagna, Qatar, Japanese and Miami - so we have only used accommodation and food costs in our analysis for now - they will be updated as soon as tickets are released
