LATEST UPDATE: The Los Angeles Dodgers head into the 2026 season as a strong favorite in BetMGM's World Series odds. Los Angeles won the last two championships, taking the 2025 crown by winning Games 6 and 7 on the road vs. the Toronto Blue Jays.

At that point, the Dodgers were +350 to in odds to win the 2026 World Series. Fast-forward to March 25 and Opening Day, and Dodger Blue is even stronger chalk at +225.

And the short price isn't detracting bettors. The Dodgers are No. 1 in tickets, taking almost twice as many bets as the Detroit Tigers. And L.A. is lapping the field in money on World Series futures, drawing 31.9% of dollars, four times more than anyone else.

"I can't say I'm too surprised to see the Dodgers leading in both tickets and handle," BetMGM trading manager Hal Egeland said. "Back-to-back champions who were already a very public team, then went out and signed the top free agent in Kyle Tucker and the best reliever in Edwin Diaz.

"That type of offseason would increase handle on any team, let alone the Dodgers."

The New York Yankees are the +1000 second choice in BetMGM's 2026 World Series odds. Then it's the New York Mets at +1200, Seattle Mariners +1300 and Blue Jays +1400.

The top five ticket-takers in BetMGM's MLB championship futures:

  • Dodgers
  • Tigers
  • Blue Jays
  • Yankees
  • Mariners

"What’s interesting is that although the Dodgers lead in total bets, the next four teams by ticket count all come from the American League," Egeland said. "That clustering doesn’t feel like a coincidence, with customers seemingly avoiding the National League.

"Personally, I hate seeing the Mariners that high, because I’m a big believer in that team as well."

BetMGM's top five in money in 2026 World Series odds:

  • Dodgers
  • Blue Jays
  • Mariners
  • Cubs
  • Tigers

Chicago is the +1800 eighth choice in World Series futures. Detroit is the +2000 co-ninth choice, joined by the Atlanta Braves.

As noted above, the Mariners cracked the top five in tickets and money to win it all. And Seattle landed the two biggest futures wagers BetMGM has seen so far, though not on the World Series.

Rather, a customer put a massive $450,000 on the Mariners to have 90 or more wins, at -110. If Seattle gets there, then the bettor profits $409,090.91. Seattle also took a $300,000 bet at even money to win the AL West, for potential profit of $300,000.

Needs and Liabilities

Usually, short prices make it difficult for favorites to become noteworthy liabilities. But so many bettors are riding the Dodgers' train that L.A. is indeed a trouble spot in 2026 World Series futures odds.

"We're often protected from growing liability on favorites due to the short price. But if the offseason is any indication, that won't be the case with the Dodgers," Egeland said. "The Dodgers are currently one of our worst outcomes, only trailing the Rockies and Pirates."

As Egeland noted above, BetMGM's biggest World Series liabilities are mainly long-shot teams, who don't need to take many tickets before liability stacks up. The top three liabilities:

The Pirates and Rockies would be an issue, but it's not as if Egeland and the risk room are sweating either outfit.

"There's been some real optimism around the Pirates this year. But we're not overly concerned about those two long shots," he said. "We'll be rooting against the Dodgers and Mariners primarily, but would like to avoid any of the long shots to make a run.

"We'll be rooting for the Brewers, Astros and Guardians, as they'd be great results for us currently. At the moment, we'd be pretty happy if any team other than the Dodgers comes out of the NL."

Milwaukee and Houston are both +3000, while Cleveland is a longer shot at +6600.

Flying Under the Radar

Egeland pointed to two teams that could be dark-horse plays worth a shot, early in the season. First up, the Kansas City Royals, currently +3000 along with the Brewers and Astros.

"Bobby Witt Jr. will in all likelihood be in the MVP conversation again," Egeland said. "Maikel Garcia is turning into a star. Vinnie Pasquantino is one of the more underrated players in the game. And the Royals have one of the best starters in the game in Cole Ragans.

"At 30/1, I think they could be worth a look.

Egeland then cited the Texas Rangers, who check in at +3500 in BetMGM's World Series futures odds.

"The Rangers' pitching staff was already phenomenal last year, and they went out and traded for MacKenzie Gore," Egeland said. "They now have three starters who could be in the Cy Young mix this year, with Nathan Eovaldi and Jacob deGrom, as well.

"There will need to be some bounce-back years on the offensive side of the ball. But I don't think that's outside the realm of possibilities."

World Series Odds

The MLB World Series takes place in late October and is often referred to as the Fall Classic. World Series futures odds for each season are made shortly after the conclusion of the previous season, and sometimes even sooner.

Since the MLB regular season is the longest of the four major sports, bookmakers don’t make one team a decisive favorite over another prior to the season. You’ll usually see three to four teams have World Series Odds of +1000 or less.

The majority of the MLB teams will have future odds ranging from +1000 to +7000 or so. Then you start to get into longer shots, with some teams at +20000 (200/1) or more.

How Do I Bet On The World Series?

It’s very simple to bet on the World Series, since the MLB futures odds market is always open for business. To figure out your Win Amount, a bettor would take the betting odds offered on a team and multiply by the amount wagered.

For example: The Yankees are +700 (7/1) to win the World Series. A $100 wager would profit $700, for a total payout of $800.
