Best Looking Candidates in the 2024 Presidential Election
The 2024 United States presidential election is in full swing, as made evident by the Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.) commercial that ran during the Super Bowl this past Sunday. While there are many skills and qualities that make a good candidate, being photogenic is quietly a huge benefit to those on the campaign trail. With the race continuing to heat up we analyzed photos of the main candidates as well as a list of potential running mates for both major parties to empirically determine who are the most attractive. The methodology and results can be found below.
Methodology
We used a machine learning algorithm to analyze photos of the major candidates remaining in the 2024 presidential race as well as a number of potential running mates for both the Democratic and Republican nominees. We analyzed 15 politicians in total, each party’s front-runner (including independent candidate RFK Jr.) as well as 6 other candidates from both major parties that could potentially be the Vice Presidential nominee this year. Scores are on a scale from 1-10 with 10 being the best score, therefore a higher score equates to being more attractive. You can see a further breakdown of the methodology as well as an explanation of the Golden Ratio and the full data set here.
The Presidential Candidates
Of the three major presidential candidates (assuming former President Donald Trump will win the Republican nomination over former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley), President Joe Biden has the highest score at 6.96316366. Donald Trump had the lowest score of the three at 6.474986203. Biden’s score ranks 5th best amongst all of the politicians we examined. Trump’s score, in comparison, ranked 2nd lowest ahead of only Democrat Dean Phillips. RFK Jr.’s score of 6.57243 puts him in the middle of the pack, ranking 11th out of the 15 total politicians we analyzed. The average attractiveness score for these three is 6.670193288.
The Running Mates
Of the 12 total potential running mates we looked at, the most attractive candidate was current Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris’s score of 7.820895231 also ranked highest of all candidates examined in general. While it is not expected to happen, if Joe Biden were to drop his current VP from the ticket, his next most attractive option would be current Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Whitmer’s score was 7.079286139. Harris and Whitmer represent two of just four candidates who scored over 7.0. The other two are South Carolina Senator Tim Scott (7.69913526) and New York Representative Elise Stefanik (7.681404107), both of whom have been rumored as potential VP candidates for Donald Trump.
On average, potential Republican VP candidates are more attractive than their Democratic counterparts. Possible GOP running mates that we examined had an average score of 7.141567018, compared to 6.831300083 for their counterparts across the aisle. With one of the lowest scores of all candidates we analyzed, Donald Trump is guaranteed to have a running mate that is more attractive than him. No other Republican had a lower attractiveness score than the former president. Joe Biden, on the other hand, will have a more attractive running mate than him only if he sticks with his current second in command, Kamala Harris, or replaces her on the ticket with Gretchen Whitmer. No other Democrat analyzed scored higher than the current president.
With a number of primaries just around the corner, including the Super Tuesday primaries that feature key states such as North Carolina, it will be interesting to see how the contests play out, as well as the behind-the-scenes contest for who will be the #2 on each ticket and how the physical looks of each candidate will play a part. While it is not currently legal to bet on election outcomes, NC residents can use our North Carolina sportsbooks review to find the best places to place wagers on events that are legal to bet on.
