Analysis
It was an impressive opening performance for Ottawa (1-0), as they humbled Saskatchewan (1-1) by a 40-17 score to easily cover a 2 1/2-point spread. The Roughriders were unable to duplicate their performance from Week 1 when they used defense to get by Toronto (0-2). Oddly enough, the 40-point outpouring of offense was just the third-highest mark on the board in Week 2.
The defending champion Argonauts are digging themselves quite the early hole, as they fell 41-7 to Calgary (2-0). The Stampeders look like they're on a mission early on, going 2-0 ATS while hitting the 'under' in each of their first two thanks to impressive defense. The Stamps are allowing just 10.5 points per game (PPG) through the first two outings. They'll be tested mightily in Week 3 when they host the RedBlacks.
While the side show of QB Johnny Manziel is the first thing reported on about Hamilton (1-1), QB Jeremiah Masoli and the offense should be the talk. They hung a 38-spot on Edmonton (1-1) in Northern Alberta for an impressive road win and cover. The Esks have stumbled out of the chute with an 0-2 ATS mark, and defense is the reason. They are allowing a dismal 34.0 PPG through two games. As such, the 'over' has hit in each of the outings.
The 'over' is popular out west, going 2-0 for the Stamps, the Esks and for Winnipeg (1-1). The Blue Bombers routed Montreal (0-2) in Week 2. The Alouettes slipped to 0-2 ATS, too, and they're averaging a dismal 10.0 PPG through the first two outings.
