Leading The Way

Duke and Florida sit atop BetMGM's March Madness futures odds. Both teams are at +325 heading into the tournament, and rightly so.

The Blue Devils are 31-3 SU and have won 11 in a row. In fact, Duke is 27-1 SU in its last 28 games.

"Duke can't seem to lose at this point, and Cooper Flagg has looked incredible for them," BetMGM trading manager Seamus Magee said.

However, Flagg suffered a sprained ankle in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. It appears he will suit up in Duke's first-round game, vs. either American or Mount St. Mary's, who meet in the First Four.

How much he'll play Friday is uncertain, though he likely won't be needed at all.

Florida is almost as hot as Duke and made a much bigger run up the odds board this season. The Gators opened +5000 at BetMGM, and they could be had for longer odds than that if you shopped around.

But now with a 30-4 SU record and a No. 1 seed, Florida is at the top of NCAA Tournament championship odds. In the SEC Tournament, on back-to-back-to-back days, the Gators beat Missouri, Alabama and Tennessee.

The Crimson Tide and Vols are both considered national championship contenders.

"Florida has seen some of the biggest movement since the season started. After opening at 50/1, they now sit at +325 to win the whole thing," Magee said.

Auburn (28-5 SU) had a bit of a letdown late in the season. The Tigers enter the Tourney on a 1-3 SU/0-4 ATS skid. But with Johni Broome on the floor, Auburn is a no-doubt title contender, currently the +400 third choice at BetMGM.

"Auburn looks like they are the real deal, so long as Johni Broome is healthy for them," Magee said.

Houston (30-4 SU) is as on fire as Duke. The Big 12 champion Cougars had a 13-game win streak from Dec. 7-Jan. 29, then lost to Texas Tech 82-81 in overtime Feb. 1. But Houston followed with another 13-game win streak that it rides into the NCAA Tourney.

BetMGM has Houston as the +600 fourth choice.

Tickets, Money and Liability

Duke is No. 1 in tickets and money in BetMGM's March Madness futures odds market. And it's not particularly close. In digital betting (online/mobile), the Blue Devis have almost two times more tickets than No. 2 Auburn and 1.5 times more money than No. 2 Florida.

Michigan State (27-6 SU) has quietly moved to No. 3 in championship tickets at BetMGM, followed closely by Florida and Houston. In championship money, Auburn is No. 3, edging out Houston, with Michigan State No. 5.

Alabama is No. 3 in tickets, while Auburn is No. 3 in money. The Crimson Tide (25-8 SU) are the +1600 fifth choice in odds to win March Madness.

Magee said Duke, Auburn and two-time defending champion UConn are the most notable liabilities for the book. BetMGM is rooting for Tennessee, Houston and Iowa State.

The Vols (27-7SU), who won their first 14 games this season, are the +1800 sixth choice. Iowa State (24-9 SU) is the +3500 co-ninth, but was as short as +1100 earlier this season.

The Cyclones opened +3000, then went 15-1 SU in their first 16 games, with the last of those a 74-57 home rout of Kansas.

Speaking of Kansas, among others:

"Kentucky, Alabama and Kansas are all still great results for now," Magee said.

Flying Under The Radar

Magee pointed to a couple of under-the-radar teams perhaps worth a look at this point. First: Texas A&M (22-10 SU), which opened +10000 (100/1) in BetMGM's March Madness odds. The Aggies got as short as +4000 and are now +6600.

"I think this Texas A&M team has a deep run in them this year. The Aggies are going to be a really tough team to knock out," Magee said.

Louisville (27-7 SU) isn't as much under the radar as it was a couple months ago. The Cardinals went 21-1 SU from Dec. 21-March 14, sandwiching an 11-game run and a 10-game run around a Feb. 1 loss at Georgia Tech. Louisville then lost to Duke in the ACC title game.

The Cardinals opened a distant +15000 (150/1) and can still be had for +12500(100/1).

"I'm starting to buy into [coach] Pat Kelsey and Louisville," Magee said. "This team is really fun to watch and could be worth a flier for a March run."
