Ohio vs. Virginia Predictions

Virginia is favored by 7.5 points for Saturday’s 7:15 p.m. start on truTV. The betting line for the total has been opened at 131 points.

Ohio brings a head of steam into Saturday’s opening round matchup with just one loss (straight-up and against the spread) in its last 10 games. The Mid-American Tournament Champions are 16-7 SU overall. The Bobcats got hot at the right time of the year which could be problematic for Virginia.

After dropping out of the ACC Tournament due to health protocols, the Cavaliers were not even sure they would be playing this game. This high level of confusion combined with Ohio’s momentum tips the scales towards the Bobcats plus the 7.5 points.

Even with Ohio averaging more than 80 points per game, my lean is towards the UNDER on the total line. Virginia can still play defense and that may be the only way to get a SU win on Saturday.

Handicapping Ohio vs. Virginia

Ohio won its final two conference tournament games against Toledo and Buffalo by a combined 22 points closing as an underdog in each contest. During an earlier six-game winning streak, it won two of those games as an underdog. This team have been resilient and dangerous when getting points this season.

The Cavaliers played like one of the best teams in the nation at times while raising more than a few eyebrows with more than one puzzling setback. They tend to get the benefit of the doubt as recent national champions playing in the ACC. However, coupled with the way its season ended, Virginia remains primed for another early exit from the Big Dance.
