North Carolina was on fire through 10 games last season, at 9-1 SU and riding a six-game win streak. But the Tar Heels didn't post another W, finishing 9-5 SU/7-7 ATS. In the Holiday Bowl, UNC fell to Oregon 28-27, but covered as a 13-point underdog.

South Carolina lodged one of the bigger upsets of the 2022-23 campaign, stomping Tennessee 63-38 as a hefty 23.5-point home underdog. The Gamecocks finished 8-5 SU/7-6 ATS, including a 45-38 loss as 5-point Gator Bowl pups to Notre Dame.

TwinSpires Sportsbook opened North Carolina -2.5 on Aug. 22. There's been no movement thus far in the college football Week 1 odds market. It's two-way action with a lean toward South Carolina, at 56% of tickets/59% of money.

"The Gamecocks are a trendy 'dog early in the week," Lucas said, before noting the total moving up to 64.5. "Sharp play on Over 63.5."
