College Football Odds for Week 8

Arizona State vs No. 5 Washington Odds

Matchup Spread Total Moneyline
  • Opening point spread: Washington -28.5
  • Opening moneyline: Washington TBA/Arizona State TBA
  • Opening total: Over/Under 59 points scored
  • Time: 10:30 p.m. ET Saturday (FS1)

UPDATE 5:30 P.M. ET THURSDAY: The Huskies made their way from -28.5 to -26.5 by Tuesday at PointsBet, and the line hasn't moved since. Half the bettors feel either that's too many points or, perhaps more so, Washington is due for a letdown after its huge home win over Oregon.

Early spread tickets are running dead even, and Arizona State is getting 55% of early spread dollars.

PointsBet's total spent the first half of the week at various iterations of 59, then briefly went to 58.5 early Wednesday morning. By late Wednesday morning, though, the number climbed to 60, where it remains now. The Over is taking 64% of bets, but 66% of cash is on the Under.

UPDATE 2:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: Washington (6-0 SU/3-2-1 ATS) easily got the biggest victory of Week 7, though it didn't get the cover. The Huskies closed as 3-point home favorites against Oregon and got a late TD to win a 36-33 shootout.

Arizona State (1-5 SU/2-3-1 ATS) was off in Week 7, after five consecutive SU losses. The Sun Devils came up just short in Week 6 against Colorado, losing 27-24 to push as 3-point home 'dogs.

Caesars moved Washington from -28.5 to -28 Sunday night.

  • Opening moneyline: UCLA -800/Stanford +550
  • Opening total: Over/Under 55 points scored
  • Time: 10:30 p.m. ET Saturday (ESPN)

UPDATE 1 P.M. ET FRIDAY: UCLA inched from -16.5 to -17 Monday at BetMGM, with no line movement since. It's two-way play with a lean toward underdog Stanford, at 53% of tickets/58% of money on the spread.

The total dropped from 54.5 to 53 Tuesday, then quickly rebounded to 53.5. It's now 53.5 (Under -115), with 56% of tickets/55% of cash on the Under.

UPDATE 2:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: Stanford (2-4 SU/3-3 ATS) pulled the shocker of Week 7 and perhaps of the entire season. The Cardinal trailed Colorado 29-0 at halftime, but went on a 26-0 run in the second half to pull within 29-26.

Stanford eventually forced overtime, tying it at 36 on a final-seconds field goal. The Cardinal then went on to win 46-43 in double overtime as 13.5-point road 'dogs.

UCLA (4-2 SU/3-3 ATS) fell to Oregon State 36-24 getting 3.5 points on the road.

Oddsmakers aren't buying into Stanford's Week 7 heroics. Caesars opened UCLA -16.5 Sunday, briefly went to -17 this morning, then returned to -16.5.

In-Progress Games for College Football Week 8

No. 14 Utah vs No. 18 USC Odds

USC QB Caleb Williams got beat up against Notre Dame. (Getty)
Matchup Spread Total Moneyline
  • Opening point spread: USC -5.5
  • Opening moneyline: USC -200/Utah +163
  • Opening total: Over/Under 56 points scored
  • Time: 8 p.m. ET Saturday (FOX)

UPDATE 6:30 P.M. ET SATURDAY: Ninety minutes pre-kick, USC is a 7-point chalk, where the number has been most of the week at BetMGM Nevada. The Trojans opened -5.5 and quickly got bet to -6.5/-7.

"Sharp play on USC -5.5/-6.5. Sharps and public are both on USC, 2/1 tickets and 3/1 money," BetMGM Nevada's Scott Shelton said.

On the moneyline, ticket count is 3/1 Utah, and Shelton said virtually all the money is on the Utes. That includes two $10,000 bets on Utah +220.

The total tumbled from 56 to 51.5 over the course of the week, with multiple stops along the way. Shelton said ticket count is dead even and money 5/1 on the Under.

UPDATE 5:30 P.M. ET THURSDAY: After a dismal performance at Notre Dame, USC landed on PointsBet's college football Week 8 odds board as a 5-point favorite. But the Trojans got out to -7 Monday and remain there this evening.

That said, spread tickets are dead even and spread money almost 5/1 on Utah.

"The opening number was an overreaction to USC's offensive performance against Notre Dame," PointsBet trader Wyatt Satre said. "Utah still has massive questions at quarterback without Cam Rising, and the Utes have been much more vulnerable away from Salt Lake City."

The total is down to 53 from a 56 opener at PointsBet, with tickets 2/1 on the Over, but money 2.5/1 on the Under.

UPDATE 2:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: Southern Cal (6-1 SU/2-5 ATS) was dealt its first loss of the season in Week 7, and it was embarrassing. The Trojans, 3-point pups at Notre Dame, got run out of the stadium 48-20.

Utah (5-1 SU/3-2-1 ATS) rebounded from its loss at Oregon State by rolling past California 34-14 as 9-point home chalk.

The Trojans have already moved to -6 and -6.5 in TwinSpires' college football odds Week 8 market. USC is netting 55% of early bets/66% of early money.

"Sharp play on USC -5.5. Bettors are expecting a rebound after the Notre Dame loss," Lucas said.

The total hasn't moved off 56, with the Over seeing 71% of tickets/55% of dollars.

No. 16 Duke vs No. 4 Florida State Odds

Matchup Spread Total Moneyline
  • Opening point spread: Florida State -13.5
  • Opening moneyline: Florida State -695/Duke +465
  • Opening total: Over/Under 49 points scored
  • Time: 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday (ABC)

UPDATE 6:30 P.M. ET SATURDAY: Florida State opened -13.5, went to -14.5 early in the week at BetMGM Nevada, dipped to -14 and is back at -14.5.

"Sharps were on Florida State -13.5," BetMGM Nevada's Scott Shelton said. "Tickets almost 2/1 in favor of Duke. Money, though, is 2/1 in favor of Florida State. And they're playing Duke on the moneyline, 4/1 tickets and 10/1 money."

The total moved from 49 to 49.5 to 48.5, with tickets and money "pretty much" dead even, Shelton said.

UPDATE 5:30 P.M. ET THURSDAY: The Seminoles opened -14.5 (even) at PointsBet and touched -13.5 a couple times, on Sunday night and Wednesday morning. In between, Florida State was at -14, and the 'Noles are now -14.5 flat.

Ticket count is almost 2/1 Duke, and interestingly, practically all the early spread money is on the Blue Devils.

The total nudged from 49 to 48.5 Wednesday, then rebounded to 50 late this afternoon. It's now 49.5, with 80% of bets on the Over/56% of money on the Under.

UPDATE 2:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: Florida State (6-0 SU/4-2 ATS) stayed right in the thick of the College Football Playoff odds market with an easy Week 7 win. The Seminoles pounded Syracuse 41-3 giving 18.5 points at home.

Duke (5-1 SU/4-2 ATS) wants something to say about how the ACC unfolds and could also easily be unbeaten. The Blue Devils' lone loss came at home to Notre Dame, on a last-minute TD. In Week 7, Duke stifled North Carolina State 24-3 as a 4-point home favorite.

The Noles are up a tick to -14 at TwinSpires. Duke is seeing 66% of spread tickets early on, while 61% of spread money is on Florida State.

"It's a Pros vs. Joes matchup. The public is grabbing the points with Duke. Sharp play on Florida State -13.5," Lucas said.

The total hasn't moved off 49, with 65% of bets/62% of cash on the Over.

No. 2 Michigan vs Michigan State Odds

Matchup Spread Total Moneyline
  • Opening point spread: Michigan -24.5
  • Opening moneyline: Michigan -3500/Michigan State +1350
  • Opening total: Over/Under 48.5 points scored
  • Time: 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday (NBC)

UPDATE 6:30 P.M. ET SATURDAY: Michigan is up to -25.5 at BetMGM Nevada, up a point from the -24.5 opener.

"Tickets and money 2/1 on Michigan," BetMGM Nevada's Scott Shelton said.

The total fell from 48.5 to 47.5 to 46.5. However, ticket count is 6/1 and money 2/1 on the Over.

"Sharp play on Under 47.5," Shelton said.

UPDATE 5:30 P.M. ET THURSDAY: Michigan inched from -24.5 to -24 Tuesday at PointsBet, and the number hasn't moved since. Spread tickets and money are both running 3/1 on the big favorite Wolverines.

Interestingly, despite the massive point spread, this matchup is garnering the second-most spread bets of any game in BetMGM's college football odds Week 8 market. That's primarily due to Michigan's popularity, with the Wolverines sitting second in spread tickets and spread money in Week 8.

The total is down 2 points to 46, with stops at 47 and 46.5 Wednesday. Still, ticket count is beyond 9/1 and money 5/1-plus on the Over. In fact, by ticket count in BetMGM's college football Week 8 odds market, this matchup is the second-most-bet Over.

UPDATE 2:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: Michigan (7-0 SU/3-3-1 ATS) is on a three-game spread-covering streak, despite hefty spreads every week. The Wolverines blasted Indiana 52-7 giving 33 points at home in Week 7.

Meanwhile, Michigan State is on a four-game SU slide. The Spartans (2-4 SU/3-2-1 ATS) blew a 24-6 lead at Rutgers in Week 7, giving up 21 fourth-quarter points in a 27-24 loss as 4-point road underdogs.

TwinSpires is stable at Michigan -24.5, with 62% of early bets/60% of early money on the Wolverines.

"Light handle so far, but we're expecting to need Michigan State in this one by kickoff," Lucas said.

The total crept from 48.5 to 48, with 52% of tickets/58% of money on the Under.

Army vs. No. 19 LSU Odds

Matchup Spread Total Moneyline
  • Opening point spread: LSU -30
  • Opening moneyline: LSU -15000/Army +2200
  • Opening total: Over/Under 58 points scored
  • Time: 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday (SEC Network)

UPDATE 1 P.M. ET FRIDAY: BetMGM pegged LSU a 29.5-point chalk (-115) and gradually moved the Tigers out to -32.5 by Thursday afternoon. However, most bettors are taking the points, with 73% of tickets/62% of cash on big 'dog Army.

The total initially receded from 57.5 (Over -115) to 56.5 Monday, then climbed to 59.5 by Thursday afternoon. But the splits are not reflective of that move: 60% of bets are on the Over, while 71% of money is on the Under.

UPDATE 2:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: LSU (5-2 SU/4-3 ATS) had no issue with Auburn in Week 7. The Tigers coasted to a 48-18 victory laying 11 points at home.

Army (2-4 SU/2-3-1 ATS) lost 19-0 as a 6.5-point road pup to Troy.

LSU remains -30 this afternoon at Caesars Sports. The total initially fell back to 57 this morning, then went to 57.5.

Virginia vs No. 10 North Carolina Odds

Matchup Spread Total Moneyline
  • Opening point spread: North Carolina -23.5
  • Opening moneyline: North Carolina -2400/Virginia +1150
  • Opening total: Over/Under 56 points scored
  • Time: 6:30 p.m. ET Saturday (CW Network)

UPDATE 12:30 P.M. ET FRIDAY: This line has been painted to North Carolina -23.5 all week at BetMGM. The only adjustment came Thursday, with a price move from -110 flat to -115. Spread tickets and money are running 4/1 on the Tar Heels.

The total went from 56.5 to 57.5 Thursday and is now 57.5 (Under -115). Tickets and money are approaching 9/1 on the Over.

UPDATE 2:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: North Carolina (6-0 SU/5-1 ATS) remains unbeaten on the field and solid against the oddsmakers, as well. In Week 7, the Tar Heels pulled away in the second half to beat Miami 41-31 as 3-point home faves.

Virginia (1-5 SU/4-2 ATS) had a Week 7 bye, after finally cracking the win column in Week 6. But the Cavaliers needed an FCS foe to break through. Virginia beat William & Mary 27-13 as 9-point home chalk.

UPDATE 6:30 P.M. ET SATURDAY: With kickoff approaching, Ole Miss is laying 6.5 points at BetMGM Nevada.

"Sharp play on Auburn +7. Tickets 3/1 in favor of Mississippi, money 2/1 in favor of Auburn," BetMGM Nevada's Scott Shelton said of activity in the sportsbook's Las Vegas market.

The total has bounced around a lot, opening at 56.5, peaking at 57.5, bottoming out at 54.5 and now sitting at 55.5.

"It's been pretty volatile. Tickets and money dead even. Sharp play on both sides, Over 54.5 and Under 57.5."

UPDATE 12:30 P.M. ET FRIDAY: Ole Miss opened -5.5 (-115) at BetMGM, briefly touched -7 (-105) Monday morning and spent the rest of the week at -6.5. The Rebels are currently -6.5 (-115) while landing 73% of early spread bets/62% of early spread money.

BetMGM's total opened at 56.5, went to 57.5 briefly Tuesday, then bottomed out at 54.5 Wednesday. It's now 55.5, with tickets almost dead even and 54% of money on the Under.

UPDATE 2:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: Mississippi is on a five-game SU win streak and coming off a bye week. In Week 6, the Rebels (5-1 SU/3-2-1 ATS) topped Arkansas 27-20, but failed to cover the 13-point spread.

Auburn (3-3 SU/2-4 ATS) was an 11-point road 'dog to LSU in Week 7 and got rolled 48-18.

Ole Miss is up a half-point to -7 in TwinSpires' college football odds Week 8 market. The Rebels are drawing 60% of early spread bets/69% of early spread dollars.

"The public is siding with Ole Miss, which is no surprise. Two teams going in opposite directions," Lucas said.

The total is stable at 56.5, with 67% of tickets/62% of money on the Over.

UPDATE 3 P.M. ET SATURDAY: An hour before kickoff, Texas is 23.5-point chalk in Caesars Sports' college football odds Week 8 market. On Sunday, the Longhorns opened -22 and advanced -22.5 within a few hours, then went to -23 Monday.

The line briefly touched Texas -24 Tuesday, then returned to -23.5 and hasn't moved since. Spread tickets and money are in the 3/1 range on the Longhorns.

Caesars opened the total at 61.5, went to 60.5 for a few minutes Tuesday, then moved to 61. The number stuck there until returning to 60.5 today. Current splits aren't available.

UPDATE NOON ET FRIDAY: The Longhorns went from -22.5 (-105) to -23.5 flat early in the week and haven't moved since. Texas is seeing 59% of spread bets, but those tickets are translating into 80% of spread money.

The total moved from 61.5 to 60.5 for a few minutes Tuesday, returned to 61.5, then in the past hour returned to 60.5. It's two-way play with a lean toward the Over, at 53% of tickets/54% of cash.

UPDATE 2:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: Texas (5-1 SU/3-3 ATS) is fresh off a bye week and looking for a big rebound. In Week 6, the Longhorns were 4-point favorites vs. Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl and gave up a last-minute TD in a 34-30 loss.

Houston (3-3 SU and ATS) recorded one of the most miraculous victories of the year in a Week 7 Thursday night game. West Virginia got a TD reception on fourth-and-10 with 12 seconds remaining to take a 39-35 lead. But the Mountaineers also took an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that was enforced on the ensuing kickoff.

The Cougars took over on their own 43 and got to the West Virginia 49 on first down. On second down with time expiring, Donovan Smith completed a Hail Mary to Stephon Johnson, giving Houston a 41-39 victory as a 3-point home 'dog.

Shortly after Caesars opened Texas-Houston on Sunday night, the line moved from Longhorns -22 to -22.5.

UPDATE 1:30 P.M. ET SATURDAY: Three hours pre-kick, BetMGM has the Crimson Tide at -8.5 (-115). Alabama opened -9.5, went to -8.5 (-115) and -8.5 flat Monday, then adjusted to -8.5 (-115) again late this morning.

Tennessee is taking 54% of spread bets, while 70% of spread cash is on Alabama.

"We're gonna need Tennessee to cover the spread. Lots of public money on 'Bama, but sharps have been on the Vols," BetMGM trader Seamus Magee said.

The Vols are a popular upset pick, landing 81% of moneyline bets/69% of moneyline cash at BetMGM. In fact, Tennessee (+260) is the second-most-bet moneyline underdog today, behind only Penn State (at Ohio State).

So on the surface, it would seem the book would be rooting for an Alabama win/Tennessee cover. But not exactly.

"Tennessee outright would be great. We have a huge bet on 'Bama national championship. So a loss here takes Alabama out of the playoff," Magee said, while also noting a Vols outright win would be a big moneyline parlay killer today, too.

The total dipped from 48.5 to 47.5 Monday, then rebounded to 49 Tuesday. By Friday, it was back down to 47.5, where it sits now. The Over is netting 56% of tickets/70% of dollars.

UPDATE 5:30 P.M. ET THURSDAY: PointsBet pegged Alabama as 9.5-point chalk Sunday night, then Monday morning moved to -8.5. The number hasn't moved since, with 54% of tickets on Tennessee and 82% of dollars on Alabama.

"Don’t make too much of this Tennessee movement yet, as it hasn’t crossed over into the 7.5 or 7 range," PointsBet trader Wyatt Satre said. "Tennessee struggled last week against a top defense in Texas A&M and got bailed out by turnovers and special teams. I don’t think Alabama makes those same mistakes."

PointsBet opened the total at 48, hit bottom at 47.5 Monday, peaked at 49.5 (Under -115) Tuesday and is now back at 48. Ticket count is 3/1 on the Over, but money is 8/1 on the Under.

UPDATE 2:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: Alabama closed as 19.5-point home favorites against Arkansas and had to hang on just to get the win. The Crimson Tide (6-1 SU/4-3 ATS) led 24-6 midway through the third quarter, but didn't score again in a 24-21 victory.

Tennessee (5-1 SU/4-2 ATS) fended off Texas A&M in a low-scoring battle throughout. The Vols got two late fourth-quarter field goals to help seal a 20-13 victory giving 3 points at home.

Alabama nudged down to -8.5 on TwinSpires' college football Week 8 odds board. Early tickets and money are in the 2/1 range on Tennessee.

"Tennessee is another trendy 'dog this week. It's 2/1 tickets and 3/1 money on Tennessee moneyline, as well. It looks like 'Bama will be a rare need," Lucas said.

The total dipped from 48 to 47, with 58% of early tickets/64% of early money on the Under.

UPDATE 11:30 A.M. ET FRIDAY: The Ducks nudged from -19.5 to -20 Monday at BetMGM, then went to -20.5 (-105) Thursday. Oregon is seeing 63% of spread tickets/59% of spread dollars.

BetMGM opened the total at 60.5, receded to 59.5 Monday, then stretched to 62.5 by Thursday morning. It's now at 61.5 (Under -115), with 72% of tickets on the Over/68% of money on the Under. By ticket count, this matchup is BetMGM's third-most-bet Under on the college football Week 8 odds board.

UPDATE 2:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: Oregon pretty much matched Washington punch-for-punch, but ultimately fell just short in a Pac-12 offensive showdown. The Ducks (5-1 SU/5-0-1 ATS) missed a final-seconds field goal that would've forced overtime, losing 36-33 as 3-point road underdogs.

Washington State looked solid in getting out to a 4-0 SU start (3-1 ATS), including impressive wins over Wisconsin and Oregon State. But the Cougars dropped their last two, including a blowout Week 7 loss. As 7.5-point home chalk, Washington State (4-2 SU/3-3 ATS) tumbled to Arizona 44-6.

Oregon opened -20 at TwinSpires and is up to -20.5. But early opinion is split, with 53% of tickets on the Cougars and 52% of money on the Ducks.

"Good two-way action so far. Oregon is needing to bounce back in a big way," Lucas said.

The total fell a point to 59, with 67% of tickets on the Over/55% of money on the Under.

"Sharp play on Under 60," Lucas said.

Minnesota vs No. 24 Iowa Odds

Matchup Spread Total Moneyline

  • Opening moneyline: Iowa -205/Minnesota +170
  • Opening total: Over/Under 32.5 points scored
  • Time: 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday (NBC)

UPDATE 12:30 P.M. ET SATURDAY: Iowa remains -3.5 at BetMGM (see below update), but spread splits have shifted over the past 24 hours. The Hawkeys are getting 69% of bets and the slimmest majority 51% of money.

Also as noted below, the total is quite intriguing. It's at 30.5, with 52% of bets/53% of money on the Under. Wind could be an issue today in Iowa City.

UPDATE NOON ET FRIDAY: If Iowa is playing, then the total is often more intriguing than the side. This week, BetMGM opened at 32.5, went to 31.5 Wednesday and 30.5 Thursday. It's now at 30.5 (Over -115) on two-way play, with 55% of tickets/59% of money on the Under.

Weather is a factor in that downward total move. Winds of 20-30 mph, with potentially higher wind gusts, are in the Iowa City forecast. BetMGM noted that, by ticket count, Minnesota-Iowa is the second-most-bet Under this week, behind only Penn State-Ohio State.

The spread has seen significant movement, too. Iowa toggled between the -5.5 opener and -4.5 a couple times during the day Monday, then went to -4/-3.5 (-120) by Monday evening. The Hawkeyes are now -3.5 flat.

Iowa is drawing 60% of spread tickets, but 61% of spread money is on Minnesota.

UPDATE 2:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: Iowa wins are rarely pretty – with Week 7 a prime example – but the Hawkeyes have strung together enough this season to crack the AP poll. As 8.5-point road pups to Wisconsin in Week 7, Iowa (6-1 SU/4-2-1 ATS) won a rock fight 15-6.

Minnesota (3-3 SU/1-5 ATS) had a Week 7 bye, and probably needed it. The Gophers were dealt a 52-10 beatdown as 19-point home 'dogs to Michigan in Week 6.

Caesars opened Iowa -5.5, dropped to -4.5 early this morning and is now at -5.
