Flavor of the Week

There's no one more flavorful at the moment than Texas backup quarterback Arch Manning. Since at least for the moment, he's the starter.

Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers entered Week 3 as the +500 favorite in BetMGM's Heisman Trophy odds, after leading a road rout of Michigan. Ewers then got off to a solid start against UTSA, completing 14 of 16 passes for 185 yards and two TDs, barely into the second quarter.

But Ewers then exited with a strained abdomen. And on came the QB with the family pedigree. Manning threw a 19-yard TD pass on his first play, then ran 67 yards for touchdown.

By night's end, he was 9 of 12 for 223 yards and four TDs passing, along with that rushing TD, as Texas rolled 56-7. Pregame at BetMGM, Manning was +10000 (100/1) to win the Heisman.

Postgame, he was all the way into the +1500 seventh choice.

"Not flooded with action. He's just looked awesome, and nobody is quite certain what's going on with Ewers," BetMGM senior trader Cameron Drucker said Saturday night.

On Sunday, BetMGM adjusted Manning slightly to +1600, but that still makes him the seventh choice. Ewers slipped from +500 pregame to +1200 after his injury, and he's now off the board while oddsmakers await more clarity on his injury status.

Others To Watch

With Ewers' injury, Miami quarterback Cam Ward slid into the favorite's slot Saturday night. And he's at an even shorter number than was Ewers.

Ward moved from the +700 second choice pre-Week 3 to the +450 chalk in BetMGM's Heisman Trophy odds. In Week 3 vs. Ball State, Ward threw for 346 yards and five touchdowns.

Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart is the +700 co-second choice with Alabama QB Jalen Milroe. And Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava continues to shorten his price, as he's now the +800 fourth choice. Iamaleava was +1500 ahead of Week 0 and +900 a week ago.

"Nico has been spectacular, and bettors – particularly from Tennessee – have certainly taken notice," BetMGM trading manager Seamus Magee said.

Colorado got back on track in Week 3 with a 28-9 victory at Colorado State. That seemed to stem the bleeding in Heisman Trophy odds for Travis Hunter. The two-way standout had 13 catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns, and he also had an interception.

A week ago, in the wake of Colorado's lackluster loss at Nebraska, BetMGM slid Hunter from +1500 to +3500. He remained at +3500 after his performance vs. Colorado State.

However, Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders continued to slide. After his poor showing at Nebraska, Sanders fell from +2000 to +4000 at BetMGM. Even with a much better effort vs. Colorado State – 36 of 49 for 310 yards and four TDs, with no INTs – Sanders is now out to +8000.
