2022 Duke Blue Devils Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions

2022 DUKE BLUE DEVILS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

It is a new era of Duke football in 2022, as longtime head coach David Cutcliffe stepped down after a disappointing 2021 season, giving way to new head coach Mike Elko. The latter was the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M, and he is now the 23rd head coach in school history.

Filling Coach Cut's shoes will be difficult. Duke was an absolute dumpster fire before his arrival, but he led them to six bowl appearances, including three bowl wins and an ACC Championship Game appearance during his tenure. While he was just 77-97 in his 14 seasons at Duke, he did lead the team to a 10-win record, developed NFL players such as QB Daniel Jones, WR Jamison Crowder, OG Laken Tomlinson, CB Ross Cockrell and many others.

The biggest loss for Duke might not necessarily be Cutcliffe, but the fact star RB Mataeo Durant has moved to the NFL. He gobbled up 1,244 rushing yards last season, and was one of the few bright spots in Durham. RB Jordan Waters will attempt to fill the void for the Blue Devils, but he is rather unproven.

In addition, QB Gunnar Holmberg from Wake Forest, N.C. left the program, going to play at FIU. Last year's backup QB Riley Leonard should step in and take the reins. And dependable WR Jake Bobo elected to transfer out to UCLA, leaving another crater-like void, and WR Jalen Calhoun likely remains the best of the lot at receiver, with WRs Darrell Hardin and Eli Pancol also factoring in.

Elko should be somewhat pleased with the foundation of the defense, which is led by LBs Shaka Heyward and Dorian Mausi, a pair of smaller-sized and larger-heart tackle machines. DE RJ Oben and DT DeWayne Carter return to give the team some bulk and push up front. The secondary is a work in progress, but incoming transfer S Jordan Morant from Michigan, and CB Datrone Young from Iowa State, will get a chance to shine from the jump.

It looks like it might be another long season at Wallace-Wade. I like in the Triangle of Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, and you can get up close to see Division I football in Durham, and sometimes can have a section almost to yourself. It looks like another one of those type years, as outside of the non-conference schedule, there doesn't look like a lot of wins for this Blue Devils team in this reboot 2022 season.

DUKE BLUE DEVILS ODDS TO WIN ACC CHAMPIONSHIP

+50000

The Blue Devils won't be very good in 2022, and it will be a feat if Duke can avoid the basement in the ultra-competitive Coastal Division of the ACC. Duke won't be in the hunt for an ACC Championship Game appearance anytime soon.

DUKE BLUE DEVILS ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

+75000

If it were basketball, then yeah, but Duke's best-ever season was a 10-4 campaign in 2013 with a loss in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. They're not going to be in the national title conversation anytime soon, if ever.
