2022 FIU Panthers Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions

2022 FIU PANTHERS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

The Panthers of FIU were a dismal 1-11 overall with a winless record in Conference USA play. There is nowhere to go but up at this point, and the team turns the keys to the car over to former Memphis defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre to serve as the sixth head coach in the school's history.

FIU likely turns to former Duke QB Gunnar Holmgren to serve as the starter under center, although QBs Haden Carlson and Grayson James will get a chance to win the job, too. Really, it's a blank canvas, as the Panthers are truly starting from the bottom floor. Offensive coordinator David Yost takes over looking to inject some fun into the offense. Whomever wins the job will have WR Tyrese Chambers (45-1074-9) as the biggest threat in the offense. Chambers was super productive despite a mish-mash QB situation in 2021.

In addition to Chambers, the Panthers added WRs Jacolby Hewitt from Indiana, WR Sharod Johnson from Syracuse and WR Randall St. Felix from South Florida to bolster the receivers room via the transfer portal. RB Lexington Joseph (57-273-1) is the top back returning.

The defense was atrocious in 2021, allowing 492.0 total yards per game to rank 128th in the nation, while yielding 262.8 passing yards per game (115th), 229.2 rushing yards per game (124th) and 39.7 PPG (126th). Defensive coordinator Jovan Dewitt takes over as the defensive coordinator, and he has his work cut out for him. The best of the lot might in the secondary with safeties Demetrius Hill and Jamal Potts in the back end.

The Panthers should make MacIntyre and company victorious in the debut Sept. 1 against FCS Bryant. FIU is facing some of the worst teams in FBS, too, with a trip to New Mexico State, and a home date against UConn. The team could very well go winless in CUSA again, though, but the good news is that they at least miss UAB, the conference favorite.

UNDER 3 wins is the play here, as at worst you push, and at best they're a 10-plus loss team. They're not winning four or more games, and certainly not challenging for a bowl.

Best Bet: FIU UNDER 3 Wins (+100)

FIU PANTHERS ODDS TO WIN C-USA CHAMPIONSHIP

+20000

FIU has to win ONE game inside the conference first before taking another step forward. This was a winless team in CUSA play, and it has lost 11 straight games overall. Baby steps. Avoid this prop for a while.

FIU PANTHERS ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

+300000

FIU was 1-11 last season, and it still has glaring needs, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Even if it was the conference favorite it wouldn't be worth wasting a red cent on FIU winning the national title. Never gonna happen.
