2022 GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

The Ramblin' Wreck was a rambling mess in 2021, stumbling to a 3-9 season. There were some feel-good moments, including a 31-27 road win at Duke and a 45-22 victory as a 14-point underdog against a ranked North Carolina team. But, there were also low points, including back-to-back shutouts by a 100-0 margin against Notre Dame and Georgia to close out the season.

Georgia Tech has lost six in a row dating back to Oct. 9, 2021 at Duke, and it enters the 2022 campaign with great expectations from within, but the talking heads do not see much improvement, if any, from the Yellow Jackets.

The schedule starts off in rather difficult fashion, with Clemson in a neutral-site game on Labor Day. The non-conference schedule features SEC power Ole Miss, and a trip to UCF, and the team wraps up the season with three road games to Virginia Tech, UNC and Georgia in the final four outings, with a home date against improving Miami in November. The schedule maker was certainly not kind to GT.

Head coach Geoff Collins has steered the team to just a 9-25 record in his first four seasons, and that's three consecutive three-win seasons, with two of the wins against fellow ACC doormat Duke, and a 1-1 record against FCS teams during the span. Not good.

The good news is that QB Jeff Sims is actually a capable signal caller in the ACC, and WR Malachi Carter has some promise, with speedster WR Kalani Norris on the outside. The Jackets will be decent in the vertical game, as long as Sims has time to operate. The team is replacing three offensive linemen from a team which wasn't very good to begin with. To make matters worse for the offense, RB Jahmyr Gibbs, one of a few bright spots, bolted for Alabama.

On defense, yeah, it was a mess last season, and things shouldn't be much better after losing top stop man LB Quez Jackson and S Juanyeh homas to the NFL. DEs Jordan Dominick and Jared Ivey also transferred out to SEC schools, leaving the cupboard pretty bare.

For the schedule, they'll likely top Western Carolina in Game No. 2, although after a loss in overtime to The Citadel in 2019, even that's not a given. And Ga. Tech usually handles Duke, who will be equally as poor, and the game is at home. The Jackets usually rise up and sting someone they're not supposed to beat, too, but anything more than another three-win season looks like a reach.

GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS ODDS TO WIN ACC CHAMPIONSHIP

Bless your heart, like they say in the south, if you think this is a championship caliber team. There won't be a lot of celebrating with chili dogs and cheese fries at The Varsity on North Avenue.

GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

+75000

Georgia Tech finished No. 1 in the UPI Coaches Poll under the tutelage of Bobby Ross back in 1990 after an 11-0-1 campaign, and that's the most recent year the Yellow Jackets can claim a national title. It's been a rough and tumble 32 years, and another title shot isn't on the horizon anytime soon.

GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS 2022 HEISMAN CONTENDERS & ODDS

Zach Gibson (QB) +20000

Gibson transfers in from Akron, and he is expected to challenge Sims for the starting signal caller job. The books believe that Gibson will eventually unseat the incumbent, but Sims knows this offense and the struggles of the team aren't his fault. I believe Sims holds onto the job, anyway, but even if Gibson were the starter sooner rather than later, a quarterback of what will be a bad team isn't sniffing the Heisman.
