2022 Miami-Ohio RedHawks Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions
2022 MIAMI-OHIO REDHAWKS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW
The RedHawks of Miami head into the 2022 season with a lot of expectations heaped upon their backs, as many of the talking heads are predicting an East Division title, holding off its closest challenge Kent State.
Miami and Kent State is turning into quite a rivalry, too. The RedHawks lost a 48-47 overtime heartbreaker at Dix Stadium on Nov. 27 last season, denying them an East Division title and a chance to go to Detroit to play in the MAC Championship Game. This season, Miami will get Kent State at Yager Stadium in Oxford in early October, and that very well could determine an East Division champ.
The Air RedHawk offense will once again be run by fourth-year starter QB Brett Gabbert. He completed just 58.2% of his pass attempts, but ended up with 2,418 yard, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions while running for 149 yards and a score in nine regular-season games. Gabbert was injured for a few games, as the now departed QB AJ Mayer stepped in and stepped up. Gabbert also tossed two TDs in the bowl win over North Texas.
It seems like WR Jack Sorenson was around forever, but he is finally graduated, and now WR Mac Hippenhammer (48-786-5) is the No. 1 receiver. TE Jack Coldiron (16-293-1) will be expected to shoulder more of the responsibilities, especially in the red zone. When Miami isn't passing the ball, it has FOUR young, experienced running backs, led by RB Keyon Mozee (113-479-4). Mozee, RB Kevin Davis, RB Tyre Shelton and RB Kenny Tracy all had at least two rushing scores in 2021, and are fairly interchangeable. They'll run behind an experienced and beastly offensive line.
Defensively, the RedHawks lost their leading tackler Ivan Pace, and to make matters worse he went to rival Cincinnati. Kameron Butler also hit the transfer portal for Virginia, but Miami is getting an injection of talent via, what else, the transfer portal. S Michael Dowell comes over from Michigan State, CB Nolan Johnson arrives from East Carolina and LB Ty Wise arrives from Indiana.
Miami will get off to a tough start with a road game at Kentucky and a neutral-site game against Cincinnati. A trip to Northwestern appears daunting, but is certainly winnable. A 2-2 start is likely, and a 3-1 start is certainly possible. The big game to circle is Oct. 8 against Kent State, a revenge game at home which could very well determine the East winner. Miami also misses Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Toledo in the crossover games. Even with a 1-3 start, which would appear to be a difficult hole to crawl out from, this is a team with enough talent to get to seven wins.

MIAMI-OHIO REDHAWKS ODDS TO WIN MAC CHAMPIONSHIP

Miami is the favorite to win the East Division, and they nearly made the league title game last season before getting tripped up in the final. This team has some Power 5 talent, and a lot of nice parts in the skill positions, as well as plenty of depth. Losing Sorenson, their heart and soul on offense, is a tough loss, but there is plenty of other guys ready to step up. For a chance to nearly quadruple up, Miami is a strong bet to win the league title game.

While Miami is a fine team, they'll already be out of the running in September with losses to Kentucky and/or Cincinnati, as well as perhaps Northwestern. Even so, they never really had a chance to make it all the way anyhow. They're not even the best Miami in FBS.
