The Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee registered a 6-6 record and 4-4 mark inside the conference while also going 2-2 outside of the league. In addition, MTSU was 6-5-1 ATS while hitting the UNDER at a 7-5 clip in the regular season. In other words, it was mediocrity on the field and at the betting window for the Blue Raiders.

The Blue Raiders might have saved their best for last, winning a bowl eligibility battle between two 5-6 teams in the last weekend of the season at FAU, cashing as a 3.5-point underdog, while topping Toledo 31-24 in the Bahamas Bowl as a 10.5-point underdog. The Blue Raiders won outright twice as a double-digit underdog.

Middle Tennessee has a healthy quarterback battle heading into the season, as QB Chase Cunningham returns from a leg injury, and he will be battling WR Nicholas Vattiato, who was successful as a replacement. Whoever emerges victorious for the starting job will have WR Jaylin Lane (42-582-4) at his disposal, as well as WR Yusuf Ali (45-472-4).

On defense, Middle Tennessee had some shockingly good numbers. It ranked 34th against the run, allowing just 129.9 yards per game on the ground, while yielding 25.9 PPG to rank 63rd. That's rather ordinary, but this team led the conference in tackles for loss, while ranking No. 1 in the nation with 32 takeaways. That was the good news. The bad news is that defensive stars S Reed Blankenship and LB DQ Thomas are each now in the NFL, while DBs Greg Grate ad Quincy Riley hit the transfer portal for Jackson State and Louisville, respectively.

The pass rush should be OK, but the Blue Raiders suffered massive losses in the back end, and it's going to be difficult to recover. It doesn't help that the team has trips to James Madison, a future Sun Belt team, as well as roadies to Colorado State and Miami-FL in the non-conference slate. Oh, and the first two CUSA league games are against the two co-favorites, UTSA and UAB. Not good. The Blue Raiders could be staring at a second consecutive 2-4 start. However, this team has the offensive talent to post another 4-2 finish, and attain bowl eligiblity, too. That's as long as the defense isn't just total dogwater.
