2022 New Mexico Lobos Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions

2022 NEW MEXICO LOBOS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

Since going 9-4 SU in 2016, New Mexico has not managed to win more than three games in a season. The Lobos struggled on both sides of the ball last season and did not score more than 17 points in their last 10 games. Head Coach Danny Gonzalez will return for his third season as head coach. Gonzalez has had two years to rebuild the program but now is the time to start working towards a winning season. Eight starters will return from last season alongside new pieces on offense and defense.

The Lobos finished last in the NCAA in average yards per game (235) and points per game (12.2). Leading rushers Aaron Dumas and Bobby Cole both left via the transfer portal. That leaves the starting job to Nathaniel Jones who was out all last season. QB Miles Kendrick (106 YDS, 2 TD, 1 INT) comes in from Kansas to take over the offense. Kendrick is solid with his legs and has potential to make a significant impact on this team. Leading receiver Luke Wysong (23 catches, 228 YDS) returns and alongside TE Gordon Porter from Arizona State should be Kendricks go-to targets. The defense ranked fourth in the Mountain West which is quite the accomplishment considering how little help they got from the offense.

New Mexico needs to win just three games to cover their win total of 2.5. The Lobos managed three wins last season and they are in position to do so again. Week one against Maine should set the Lobos up with a 1-0 SU record. Aside from that game, there are plenty of other opportunities for wins with a home game against UTEP and road games against UNLV, New Mexico State, and Colorado State. I expect New Mexico to win two of those games as well as a surprise game somewhere along the way to put their win total at four on the season. Best play here is to back the Lobos over 2.5 wins (-140).

Best Bet: Over 2.5 (-140)

NEW MEXICO LOBOS ODDS TO WIN MOUNTAIN WEST CHAMPIONSHIP

+20000

The Lobos have some work to do before competing for a Mountain West Championship. Their offense was too bad, and they lost too many players to the transfer portal for them to see the kind of turn around needed here. A four-to-six-win season would be a tremendous success in the eyes of Coach Gonzalez, so maybe start focusing on realistic goals before backing this wager.

NEW MEXICO LOBOS ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

+300000

New Mexico has made it to two bowl games since 2010 and have never been in contention for the National Championship in the program's history. I would not expect that to change this season. Playing LSU in week four will be a good showing of how far this program is from playing with the big dogs. While the juice may be tempting here, take your money elsewhere.

NEW MEXICO LOBOS 2022 HEISMAN CONTENDERS & ODDS

The New Mexico Lobos do not have any Heisman contenders to begin the 2022 season.
