2022 NC State Wolfpack Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions

2022 NC STATE WOLFPACK BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

The NC State football team had a strong 9-3 showing during the regular season, and it was primed and ready for a Holiday Bowl showdown with UCLA for the opportunity for its first-ever 10-win team. However, UCLA was forced to pull out of the game due to a COVID outbreak within the program, and the Wolfpack never was able to find a dance partner for another bowl game.

It was a disappointing end to an outstanding campaign, and all of the key pieces are back from that strong team, including Heisman hopeful QB Devin Leary. Yes, left tackle Ikem Ekwonu is now receiving a paycheck in the pros, but Anthony Belton is expected to slide into the starting lineup to protect Leary's backside.

WRs Devin Carter (31-556-6) and Thayer Thomas (51-596-8) are back, although the team is without WR Emeka Emezie, who has moved along. Returnee RB Jordan Houston was a nice second fiddle to RB Zonovan Knight last season, and he'll likely be tasked to be the work horse. RB Demie Sumo-Karngbaye also turned heads in the spring, and he is likely to get some run.

Defensively, the Wolfpack lost plenty of talent from the opening roster due to injuries. However, NC State persevered as the season went on. Now, with plenty of injured players returning to join the starters who finished up, competition will be fierce for jobs in Raleigh. Competition will lead to plenty of success on the field.

NC State has a so-so non-conference schedule, and we'll learn a lot about this team in September. A 4-0 run is certainly attainable, as the toughest game, Texas Tech, is at Carter-Finley. The ACC schedule begins with a trip to Clemson to open October. The Atlantic Division might be determined in that game. The rest of NC State's conference schedule is winnable, although a trip to UNC at season's end is always difficult. But the home schedule is favorable. This has the looks of the school's first 10-win team, washing away the bad taste from last season's disappointing ending.

NC STATE WOLFPACK ODDS TO WIN ACC CHAMPIONSHIP

+900

I'd feel a lot more confidence in the Wolfpack's chances to secure an Atlantic Division title if the Clemson game were at home and/or a little later in the season. A road trip, and as the conference opener, is quite the tall order. However, NC State does have plenty of talent and it's going to be a good game. Even with a loss it is possible NC State overcomes Clemson, but that means the Tigers need two losses, and that's probably not happening in a second consecutive season. I'd only go lightly on this prop.

NC STATE WOLFPACK ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

+20000

While NC State has a majority of its starters back from a 9-win team, this is still a school which has never had a 10-win season. Alabama, Clemson, etc. have ticked that number off by the middle of November. The Wolfpack is still learning to win, and it's likely it ends up with at least two losses, if not more. They're not national title contenders, no matter how loudly some in Raleigh might bang the drum.

NC STATE WOLFPACK 2022 HEISMAN CONTENDERS & ODDS

Devin Leary (QB) +10000

Leary completed 65.7% of his pass attempts for 3,433 yards, 35 touchdowns and five interceptions while running for two more scores. He is a pocket passer who lost his starting left tackle and top receiver. He'll still be in line for a very good season, especially since Carter and Thomas are back to help out. Leary will be very good, but Heisman? That's a big of a stretch, and it's nice to see the books feel that way, too.
