2022 Rutgers Scarlet Knights Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions
2022 RUTGERS SCARLET KNIGHTS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW
The 2021 Rutgers Scarlet Knights opened the season 3-0 SU and 4-0 ATS, and it looked like head coach Greg Schiano was going to have his team on the way to a special season. The Scarlet Knights had a 20-13 near-miss at Michigan on Sept. 25, a solid effort against a playoff team, although Ohio State undressed them 52-13 the next week. After the Michigan loss, Ohio State had three straight losses by 14 or more points to slip under .500.
Rutgers rebounded with two wins in three games to get to 5-5, but losses by 24 or more points at Penn State and against Maryland spoiled the chance of the Scarlet Knights to go bowling. Or did it? After a COVID issue hit the Texas A&M program, Wake Forest needed an opponent, and there were no remaining bowl-eligible teams to replace the Aggies. So the Scarlet Knights got a call to face Wake Forest in Jacksonville. It went about as well as you'd expect, ending in a 38-10 loss. But the good news is that the Scarlet Knights had another month of practice and another game of experience to build upon heading into 2022.
The Scarlet Knights look to take a step forward on offense behind a rebuild O-line with plenty of impressive recruits and transfer portal additions. QB Gavin Wimsatt is a big-time recruit that has the Rutgers faithful buzzing. While QB Noah Vedral will have a chance to keep his job heading into the season, his leash might be extremely short.
RBs Kyle Monangai (62-235-4) and Aaron Young (49-172-4) will likely be a one-two punch in the backfield for Rutgers heading into the season. The wideout corps is completely rebuilt as WR Taj Harris comes over from Syracuse, and WR Sean Ryan arrives from West Virginia. WR Aron Cruickshank is back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury.
On the defensive side of the ball, Rutgers has some issues at linebacker. There was a lot of promise for freshman Moses Walker, but he suffered a season-crushing ACL injury in the spring. LB Mohamed Toure, who had 44 total stops in 12 games, suffered a season-ending injury in the spring, too. It's a difficult beginning for defensive coordinator Joe Harasmyiak. The good news is that the secondary is rather strong, and the defensive line should be much better.
Rutgers has semi-challenging non-conference schedule with two road games, although a 2-1 start should definitely be possible. Crossover games against Iowa and Nebraska at home, and Minnesota on the road is a bit of a tough deal. The Scarlet Knights also have trips to Columbus and East Lansing this season which will be tough. This is a team which will be in a very similar spot to last season. Four or five wins tops. The best bet is to go to UNDER 4.5 Wins.
Best Bet: Rutgers Under 4.5 Wins (-165)

RUTGERS SCARLET KNIGHTS ODDS TO WIN BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP
+30000
It would be a mild surprise if the Scarlet Knights were able to attain bowl eligibility, but this isn't a team which is going to be capable of getting to the Big Ten Championship Game. A trip to Indianapolis would mean Rutgers somehow leapfrogged Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and/or Penn State. It's not happening, folks.
RUTGERS SCARLET KNIGHTS ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
+100000
Did you know that Rutgers has one national championship in football. That championship came in the very first college football season back in 1869. So yeah, things haven't exactly been going swimmingly in Piscataway for the past 150 or so years. A national championship hasn't been close in the modern era, and it won't be coming anytime soon, either.
