2022 SYRACUSE ORANGE BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW

The Orange came up just short of bowl eligibility in 2021, ending up 5-7 overall with a 2-6 mark inside the conference. Syracuse won just one game inside the Atlantic Division, so it likely won't be terribly sad to see the new 3-3-5 schedule process implemented, and the divisions going away after the 2022 season.

Will Dino Babers be around to see the new scheduling system? That remains to be seen. He helped the team to a 10-win season in 2018, including a Camping World Bowl victory, but his other five seasons have all been losing efforts. Still, the team improved from 1-10 to 5-7 after the strange COVID season of 2020, and this team was 5-4 heading into November before an 0-3 SU/ATS skid to wind up the year.

On offense, QB Garrett Shrader is expected to be back under center. He completed just 52.6% of his pass attempts, a mark which must improve dramatically. He finished with 1,445 passing yards, nine touchdowns and just four interceptions while rushing for 781 yards and a team-best 14 scores. RB Sean Tucker is also back, and he went for 1,496 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns last season. So the offense can move the chains, and will look to new offensive coordinator Robert Anae and new quarterbacks coach Jason Beck to get the team moving even more efficiently.

The defense has its secondary intact from last season, but the defensive line and linebackers are each green. This is a team which could be gashed for big yardage on the ground if it doesn't jell and mature in a big hurry.

The schedule maker did not do 'Cuse any favors with the conference opener doubling as the regular-season opener. At least the Louisville game is at home to start, before a breather at UConn. A visit from Purdue will be a stern early-season test, too.

The Orange should go 2-1 in the non-conference portion of the schedule, not including the Notre Dame game. The home slate is a bit daunting with a visit from Florida State and NC State, while road trips to Clemson, Pittsburgh and Wake Forest are also no bargain. I don't like how the schedule sets up, and it's difficult to find five victories for this Orange side. Playing the UNDER is your best bet. That might mean curtains for Babers, too.

SYRACUSE ORANGE ODDS TO WIN ACC CHAMPIONSHIP

+12500

You have a lot better of a chance to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel, and survive, than you do cashing a ticket on Syracuse winning the ACC Championship. This team likely will fall short of bowl eligibility again, and a losing record inside the conference is expected yet again.

SYRACUSE ORANGE ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

+75000

Even when this team was flying along during the days of Jim Brown or Donovan McNabb or Don McPherson, it wasn't close to competing for national titles. If the Orange could scratch out a .500 season it would be a major success. It isn't going to be in the national title picture anytime soon, if ever.

Tucker grabbed huge chunks of real estate on the ground, and combines with Shrader for a nice one-two punch in the run game. But the Heisman voters don't often look at players on losing teams, if at all, and that's exactly where Tucker's team will be in the standings.
