2022 UMass Minutemen Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions
2022 UMASS MINUTEMEN BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW
Don Brown is back at Massachusetts after spending more than a decade as a defensive coordinator for some of the best teams in the FBS. Brown led the Minutemen to an appearance in the FCS National Championship Game in 2006, but he left the school in 2008 after leading the program to five straight winning seasons at the FCS level. If he can lead UMass to even one winning season, he will have a statue erected to commemorate the achievement as the Minutemen have been the worst team in the FBS over the last decade.
UMass went 1-11 in 2021 and finished dead last in the nation in SP+. The Minutemen were able to knock off 1-11 UConn, but they lost every other game by at least 13 points and were crushed by two FCS foes in Rhode Island and Maine.
Brown should breathe life into a defense that allowed 44.7 PPG and 511.2 YPG last season. UMass returns eight starters on this side of the ball, and the team welcomes back all five of their leading tacklers. Josh Wallace had 12 pass break-ups in the secondary to lead the team, while Billy Wooden had 7.5 tackles for loss as a nose tackle. This front seven really needs to get after the quarterback though as UMass had a scant 11 sacks in 2021.
The three quarterbacks that saw significant action for UMass last year each completed less than 50% of their passes. Brady Olson was the top option, but Tyler Lytle and Garrett Dzuro saw time too. Lytle has left, so Zamar Wise has entered the mix.
Ellis Merriweather was the one bright spot for UMass in 2021. Merriweather ran for 1,138 yards (5.2 YPC), and he did his best to keep UMass ahead of schedule. Rico Arnold is the leading returning receiver, but he had just 27 receptions for 461 yards and three touchdowns due to the issues at quarterback.
The Minutemen only play one FCS team in 2022. UMass does get to play other teams that are in the doghouse of the FBS though as Temple, New Mexico State, and UConn all stink something fierce. Brown will have his team play tough all year, and that will be enough to pull out three wins.

UMASS MINUTEMEN ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
+300000
The Minutemen have not won more than four games in a season since joining the FBS in 2012. UMass was solid as an FCS program, but the school has found it much harder to compete at this level and won’t win more than a handful of games.
UMASS MINUTEMEN 2022 HEISMAN CONTENDERS & ODDS
