2022 USF Bulls Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions
2022 USF BULLS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW
This is a make-or-break season for Jeff Scott. The former Clemson assistant came to South Florida before the start of the 2020 season in order to clean up the mess that Charlie Strong left behind in his final year. Insiders knew that Scott had a tall task ahead of him, but USF has not been competitive with a 1-18 record against FBS foes over the last two seasons. The Bulls have yet to win a road game under Scott, so they need to at least flirt with bowl eligibility in his third season on the job.
The good news for Scott is that this is the most talented and experienced team he has had at USF. The Bulls have the most experienced offensive line in the country with four seniors that have started well over 100 games. That bodes well for senior running back Jaren Mangham who was one of the few bright spots for this offense in 2021. Mangham averaged 4.2 YPC and ran for 15 touchdowns last season.
Gerry Bohanon transferred to USF from Baylor in the offseason, and that should give this passing attack a much-needed jolt. The Bulls had one of the least effective passing games in the country in 2021 with their three quarterbacks combining to complete 54% of their passes for 6.5 YPA with six touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Xavier Weaver is the top returning receiver, and Clemson transfer Ajou Ajou could thrive at this level.
USF figures to be better on the defensive side of the ball too. The entire back seven returns for the Bulls, and that experience should lead to improvement for a defense that ranked 117th in Defensive SP+ in 2021. They ranked in the bottom ten nationally in YPA in run defense (5.9 YPC) and pass defense (8.9 YPA).
Only one starter returns along the defensive line, but addition by subtraction could be a good thing up front. The Bulls hit the transfer portal hard to improve an awful run defense, bringing in four transfers from P5 programs to infuse some new blood in this unit.
This will be the best Bulls team that we have seen under Scott, but a rough non-conference schedule will keep USF from getting to five wins. USF will be heavy underdogs against BYU, Florida, and Louisville before starting AAC play, and things could snowball in a hurry if the defensive line doesn’t take a sizeable step forward.

USF BULLS ODDS TO WIN AAC CHAMPIONSHIP
+6000
There is an improbable path for USF to win the AAC, but a lot of things have to go right for the Bulls. Bohanon has to play well behind an experienced offensive line that avoids injury, and the defense has to make marked improvement under new defensive coordinator Bob Shoop. USF at 60-1 holds more value than the other three teams that are over 25-1 to win the AAC, but it’s worth nothing more than a lottery pick.
USF BULLS ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
+200000
Not happening. USF was ranked No. 2 in 2007, but the Bulls lost three straight games and ended the season unranked. They were barely able to crack the Top 20 in consecutive double-digit win seasons under Strong in 2016 and 2017, so there is no chance that the Bulls win it all.
USF BULLS 2022 HEISMAN CONTENDERS & ODDS
Gerry Bohanon (QB) +25000
The true odds for Gerry Bohanon to win the Heisman Trophy should be closer to 1000-1. Bohanon did help lead Baylor to a Big 12 Championship last season, but he lost the starting job and was forced to transfer to USF this offseason. He will be the best quarterback that Scott has had in this offense, yet he isn’t the type of player that will light up the stat sheet.
