2022 Wake Forest Demon Deacons Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions
2022 WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS BETTING ODDS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW
Wake Forest had a magical season in 2021, posting six wins in the Atlantic Division while winning a tiebreaker with Clemson and NC State to represent the division at the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte. The Demon Deacons suffered a 45-21 setback to Pittsburgh in the league title game, but took their frustrations out on Rutgers in the Gator Bowl by a 38-10 count to cap off an 11-win season, tying the 2006 team for the most in school history.
Wake Forest has now appeared in six consecutive bowl games, going 4-2 in those outings, after appearing in just 10 total bowls from 1908-2015. Head coach Dave Clawson has done a great job in the Triad for the Deacs, and they are showing no signs of slowing down.
Offensive coordinator Warren Ruggiero has done a fabulous job with his unit, and the team is averaging at least 30 points per game dating back to 2017. QB Sam Hartman really flourished under Ruggiero's tutelage, throwing for 3,924 yards, 36 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while running for 342 yards and 11 more scores.
As you would expect, the receivers also had some big numbers, too, and WR A.T. Perry was the best of the lot with 1,166 yards and 14 scores. Gone is WR Jaquarii Roberson, but there is plenty of depth with WRs Taylor Morin (39-563-5), Ke'Shawn Williams (25-366-3) and Donavon Greene, who returns from a lengthy injury absence.
In the backfield, RB Christian Beal-Smith elected to transfer to South Carolina, likely leaving RBs Justin Ellison and Christian Turner to handle most of the touches in the run game.
Defense was shaky at times, needing the offense to outscore teams with big totals. They were gouged especially hard in the run game, and they're hoping transfers will help shore things up in a hurry. The secondary, which wasn't great to begin with, has a lot of pieces to replace.
The non-conference schedule likely will give the Deacs a handful of wins, if not a perfect 4-0 record, but the conference schedule is daunting. The Deacs get Clemson at home, but trips to Florida State, Louisville and NC State will each be big tests. Still, this has the looks of at least an eight-win team. There are just too many questions on defense to bank on nine wins. Expect a bit of a backslide here.

WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS ODDS TO WIN ACC CHAMPIONSHIP
+1600
The Deacs aren't sneaking up on anyone like they did last season, and this team likely will have at least three losses in the conference. The defense just isn't championship caliber, and will definitely hold Wake back from building upon last season's magical campaign.
WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS ODDS TO WIN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
+15000
Wake Forest has never been a legitimate national title contender, losing at least three games in every season in the modern era. Can Clawson get them to the College Football Playoff one day? It's actually possible in the ACC. But that isn't happening in 2022, or anytime soon.
WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS 2022 HEISMAN CONTENDERS & ODDS
Sam Hartman (QB) +8000
Hartman will put up some decent numbers, and after averaging 41 points per game last season, he likely didn't get as much attention or respect as he should have received. This is a legitimate dark horse candidate to at least get invited to New York if he can build upon his 2021 numbers. The chances of a win aren't good, but this is worth a $5-10 bet just for fun. You never know.
