LSU TIGERS vs. FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES BETTING PREDICTION

If LSU loses its opener, it could be a long first year for Brian Kelly in Baton Rouge. The Tigers lost 28 lettermen this offseason, and only 10 starters are returning from the 2021 team. That is likely to lead to a lot of issues early in the season, and FSU will look to take advantage of those problems after getting to work out some kinks against Duquesne last week.

Best Bet: Florida State +3 (-110)

LSU TIGERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels will be the No. 1 quarterback for LSU this season. Daniels beat out incumbent Myles Brennan to be the starting quarterback, after which Brennan announced that he was retiring from football. In his three years as a starter at Arizona State, Daniels statistically regressed each season. He was superb as a freshman in 2019, but he threw 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions last year and averaged less than 8.0 YPA for the first time in his career.

Daniels has the benefit of having a solid receiving corps led by Kayshon Boutte. LSU’s top five receivers from 2021 have all returned to the fold, so at least there’s some continuity there. However, the same can’t be said for the offensive line and the run game.

The top two rushers from last year are gone, and only one starter returns on the offensive line. LSU is slated to start three underclassmen up front, so the Tigers could be one-dimensional in this game.

LSU has the 22nd ranked defense per SP+ coming into the season. Ali Gaye is expected to shine after missing last year due to injury, and there is a lot of buzz about defensive end B.J. Ojulari. However, the back seven could be an issue. Oklahoma State transfer Jarrick Bernard-Converse brings a load of experience to the secondary, but there are question marks elsewhere.

FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES BETTING ANALYSIS

Jordan Travis is an incredibly gifted runner. Florida State’s starting quarterback is the top returning rusher on the Seminoles, and he can make a lot of things happen with his legs. However, the question is what he can do with his arm. His overall stats weren’t bad in 2021, but he wasn’t that polished of a passer, leading to McKenzie Milton taking snaps away from Travis. His accuracy reportedly improved in the offseason, yet this will be his first real test.

Treshaun Ward and Lawrance Toafili will be the starting running backs for Florida State. Ward and Toafili backed up Jashaun Corbin last year, and they will have an experienced offensive line paving the way for them. Four of five starters from last year return, and the Seminoles were able to bring in transfers Bless Harris and Kayden Lyles. Unfortunately, Lyles suffered a season-ending injury in August.

Six of the seven leading receivers from 2021 are returning to the fold for Florida State. The Seminoles didn’t have a super productive passing game or a standout receiver last year, but they are hoping to change both things this campaign.

FSU returns eight starters on defense and should have one of the top secondaries in the ACC. Jammie Robinson was a First Team All-ACC pick in 2021 after leading the conference in interceptions, and Akeem Dent is a very talented safety.
