VIRGINIA CAVALIERS vs. SYRACUSE ORANGE BETTING PREDICTION

The Cavaliers have had some success at home, and they had difficulty in their only game on the road. Virginia doubled up FCS Richmond by a 34-17 count in the opener before getting knocked around at Illinois in Week 2 by a 24-3 score. UVA rebounded in Week 3 with a narrow 16-14 score against Old Dominion, as the offense continues to struggle, and the defense continues to show out.

In two games against FBS teams, the Hoos have managed just 19 total points in two games, while allowing 18.3 PPG across three outings to rank 39th in the nation. Virginia is now 0-3 ATS, and the UNDER has cashed in each outing, too.

Syracuse is coming off a thrilling 32-29 comeback victory against Purdue last week under the dome, winning and covering for the third consecutive contest. Head coach Dino Babers has things going in the right in northern New York. The Orange have been very balanced, going for 37.0 PPG while allowing 16.7 PPG. QB Garrett Shrader has completed 66.2% of his passes for 705 yards, 8 TD and 0 INT while running for 202 yards and 3 TD.

UVA has won three straight meetings in this series, including the first ACC meeting since Syracuse joined the league. The last meeting was way back on Oct. 17, 2015, a 44-38 victory by the Cavaliers in Charlottesville. This is the first time these teams have met in Syracuse since Sept. 17, 2005.

Score Prediction: Syracuse 31, Virginia 20

VIRGINIA CAVALIERS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Cavaliers have had tremendous success in the past, led by QB Brennan Armstrong. However, the run game has struggled a little bit, and therefore Virginia is having trouble moving the ball through the air, too. Armstrong has completed just 52.9% of his pass attempts for 710 yards, 2 TD and 3 INT in three games for the Cavaliers, while running for 150 yards and a score. RB Perris Jones has been the best of the lot in the backfield, as he tries to replace RB Wayne Taulapapa, but it has been a slow go.

Virginia has managed just 17.7 PPG to rank 117th in the nation, while allowing just 18.3 PPG to rank 39th in the country. It's all about defense and low scoring, sorta like the Virginia football team took a lesson from the basketball team.

UVA has failed to cover all three games, and the regular-season finale, too. Virginia is 1-5 ATS in the past six games in the month of September, too, while going 2-5 ATS in the past seven Friday appearances. The good news is that the Hoos are 5-1 ATS in the past six ACC games, and 23-10 ATS in the past 33 against winning teams.

For totals, the UNDER has hit in four straight outings, and five in a row in the month of September. The UNDER is also 5-2 in the past seven ACC league games.

SYRACUSE ORANGE BETTING ANALYSIS

The Orange entered the season with a season win total of 5, and they have already registered a 3-0 SU record, and they're favored to win a fourth straight outing to open the season.

The Orange were up 10-9 after three quarters against the Boilermakers last week, but then all hell broke loose in the fourth quarter. The teams combined for 42 points in the fourth quarter, much to the dismay of UNDER bettors. Purdue took the 29-25 lead with 51 seconds left in regulation, and it looked like Syracuse would suffer its first loss. But Shrader hit WR Oronde Gadsden II for a 25-yard touchdown pass into the back left corner for the game-winning score with just seven ticks left.

Syracuse is 10-3 ATS in the past 13 games dating back to last season, while going 7-1 ATS in the past eight home games while going 8-3 ATS in the past 11 ACC outings. The Orange are also 6-2 ATS in the past eight appearances on a Friday, while going 15-5-1 ATS in the past 21 games in the month of September.

For totals, like the Hoos, it's all about the UNDER. The UNDER is 4-1 in the past five home games, and 4-1 in the past five ACC games, too. In addition, the UNDER has hit in five straight appearances on a Friday, while going 17-8 in the past 25 games in the month of September.
