CLEMSON TIGERS at WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS BETTING PREDICTION

The fifth ranked Clemson Tigers have once again started the season as one of the favorites to make the College Football Playoffs. Clemson has taken care of business in their first three games although this is expected considering the talent they have faced. Week one started with a 41-10 road win against Georgia Tech, followed by a 35-12 win over Furman, and most recently defeated Louisiana Tech 48-20 this past Saturday. This will be the Tigers first true test of the season and while the defense will be up to the task, the offense remains a bit uncertain after last year's disappointing performance.

Wake Forest finds themselves ranked 21st in the country after starting the season with a 3-0 SU record. The Demon Deacons opened the season with a 44-10 home win over VMI, followed by a 45-25 road win over Vanderbilt, and defeating Liberty 37-36 this past weekend. Is Wake Forest ready for Clemson tends to be the biggest question in this matchup. While there are no clear-cut answers, Wake Forest nearly lost to Liberty last week and a failed two-point conversion is the only thing that kept them in the top-25 this week. Obviously, this is just one game, but adjustments will clearly need to be made if they expect to keep things close with Clemson.

I like Clemson to win and cover in this matchup. Even with an atrocious offense last season, the Tigers still managed to beat Wake Forest 48-27. I think Wake Forest is a bit overhyped right now and that will show Saturday. Expect them to keep it close in the first half but for Clemson to run away with it in the second. Backing the Tigers here.

CLEMSON TIGERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Entering this matchup Clemson is 3-0 SU and 1-2 ATS on the season. The Tigers are 9-0 SU and 6-3 ATS in their last nine games going back to last season. They are also 6-0 SU in their last six games when playing on the road against Wake Forest. The total has gone under in four of their last five games. Going against this trend, the total has gone over in six of their last eight games when playing an ACC opponent.

As mentioned before Clemson has not played any serious talent yet this season, but the offense has already had more success scoring the ball compared to last season. Through three games the Tigers are averaging 243.0 passing yards (76th), 182.0 rushing yards (57th) and 41.3 points per game. QB DJ Uiagalelei has thrown for 662 yards, five TD’s, and one interception. The biggest weakness of this team is the lack of receivers Ulagalelei has to throw to. In Clemson's dominant years they always had big name receivers to help the Deshaun Watson’s and Trevor Lawrences that have gone through this program, but this season feels a little different in that department.

The Tigers defense have looked dominant to start the season and this should not come as a surprise considering the talent they have. Through three games Clemson is allowing opponents 244.7 passing yards, 68.0 rushing yards, and 14.0 points per game. The Tiger's defense has also forced six turnovers this season and recorded five sacks. Do not be surprised if Clemson forces a turnover early in the game and completely changes the momentum in this one.

WAKE FOREST DEMON DEACONS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Demon Deacons are 3-0 SU and 2-1 ATS headed into their matchup against Clemson. They are just 1-4 ATS in their last five matchups when playing as an underdog. Wake Forest is 11-0 SU in their last 11 home games. Going against this trend, the Demon Deacons are 0-6 SU in their last six games when playing at home against Clemson. The total has gone under in four of their last six games. Going against this trend, the total has gone over in four of their last six games against an ACC opponent.

As a team the Demon Deacons are averaging 306.3 passing yards (22nd), 128.0 rushing yards (97th), and 42.0 points per game (T-33rd). QB Sam Hartman has thrown for 625 yards, seven TD’s, and two INT’s with WR A.T Perry being his lead target with 12 REC, 222 YDS, and one TD. It is tough to judge this team right now simply because of the lack of talent they have faced, but Hartman and Perry will need to produce some big plays to hang around with Clemson.

To put it simply, the Demon Deacons defense will need to be better in this matchup than they have been. On the season they are allowing opponents 192.0 passing yards, 123.7 rushing yards, and 23.6 points per game. While these are not terrible numbers, they are not great considering the teams that they played. Liberty managed to rush for 172 yards against the Demon Deacons defense, if they are not careful it could be a long day trying to slow down Clemson’s rushing attack.
