NC STATE WOLFPACK vs. CLEMSON TIGERS BETTING PREDICTION

The Clemson Tigers had won eight straight games over the North Carolina State Wolfpack prior to last year. NC State knocked off Clemson 27-21 in Raleigh last September, keeping the Tigers out of the ACC Championship Game. It’s been 20 years since the last time NC State knocked off Clemson on the road though (with the great Philip Rivers under center), so they will have their work cut out for them this week.

Score Prediction: Clemson 27, NC State 17
Best Bet: Clemson -6.5 (-110)

NC STATE WOLFPACK BETTING ANALYSIS

Devin Leary has had a nice season under center for North Carolina State. Leary is completing 64% of his passes for 7.1 YPA with nine touchdowns and two interceptions. His pass protection has been great, as he has only been sacked four times in four games, but this offense has not been as dangerous as it was last season, ranking 53rd in Offensive SP+.

The Wolfpack are averaging 4.4 YPC. Demie Sumo-Karngbaye is the leading rusher with 252 yards and three touchdowns, and he is averaging 6.5 YPC. Jordan Houston is the second leading rusher on the team with 138 rushing yards, and he is picking up 4.2 YPC this season. Sumo-Karngbaye and Houston have been significant players in the passing game too, ranking third and fourth on the team in receiving yards.

Thayer Thomas and Devin Carter are the two receivers that Clemson must keep an eye on in the passing game. Thomas and Carter were two of the top three receivers last season, and they are the leading wide outs on the team.

North Carolina State is ranked 8th in Defensive SP+. The Wolfpack rank ninth in scoring defense (14.7 PPG) and 17th in total defense (298.7 YPG) coming into this game. First Team All-ACC defensive lineman Cory Durden hasn’t been as dominant as he was in 2021, but Tanner Ingle and Drake Thomas have lived up to their preseason accolades.

CLEMSON TIGERS BETTING ANALYSIS

D.J. Uiagalelei was one of the most criticized players in the country last year, but he has performed better in his second year as a starter. Uiagalelei is coming off his best game of the season, as he completed 26 of 41 passes for 371 yards and five touchdowns in a 51-45 double overtime win over Wake Forest last week. He hasn’t been as mistake prone as he was in 2021, and Uiagalelei has been a better runner than he was last year too. The Clemson quarterback is the second-leading rusher on the roster with 169 yards and a touchdown.

It's tough to stop Will Shipley, and he is likely to be fully unleashed in this game. Shipley hasn’t carried the ball more than 20 times in a game yet this season, but he has 52 rushes for 353 yards and seven touchdowns through four games in 2022. This is a very good offensive line with NFL prospect Jordan McFadden up front, and they have done a better job of blocking than they did last year.

The receivers are more dangerous than they were in 2021 too. We have seen Beaux Collins and Joseph Ngata make plays, and this unit is much better at attacking the ball at the high point, helping Uiagalelei in the passing game.

Clemson’s defense ranks 19th in Defensive SP+. This defensive line is one of the best in the nation with Bryan Bresee and Myles Murphy up front, but they struggled against Wake Forest’s mesh last week. They will benefit from playing a more traditional offense on Saturday.
