OKLAHOMA STATE COWBOYS vs. TCU HORNED FROGS BETTING PREDICTION

The usual suspects aren’t atop the Big 12 standings this year. Oklahoma is one of three winless teams in the conference, and Texas has already fallen to Texas Tech. Instead, the TCU Horned Frogs and Oklahoma State Cowboys will battle for conference supremacy at the midway point of the season this Saturday. Both teams are 5-0 and 2-0 in conference play, and the winner will be the only team left with a realistic chance at making the College Football Playoff.

OKLAHOMA STATE COWBOYS BETTING ANALYSIS

Spencer Sanders appears to have shaken off the bitter end to last season. Sanders has been a steady hand under center in Mike Gundy’s scheme, and he has thrown for almost 1,400 yards with 12 touchdowns and two interceptions through five games. He is the second leading rusher on Oklahoma State too as he runs a lot of RPO, and he has only been sacked five times all year.

The offensive line has had a little trouble since the start of Big 12 play though. Dominic Richardson hasn’t been as effective running the ball as he averaged just 3.0 YPC against Baylor and 3.5 YPC against Texas Tech. Richardson hasn’t had a run longer than 10 yards in over a month, and that has led to the Cowboys ranking 70th nationally in third down conversion rate.

Sanders does a good job of spreading the ball around to a few different receivers. Braydon Johnson is the big play threat that is averaging 21.2 YPR, but he suffered a head injury last week and his status is in question for this game. Brennan Presley has been the most targeted receiver and is averaging 12.1 YPR as more of a possession type, and Bryson Green had a big game last week against the Red Raiders.

Oklahoma State has the 32nd ranked defense in the country according to SP+. The Cowboys have been solid against the run, but their secondary has been lit up by opposing quarterbacks. They are allowing 342.8 YPG through the air, and they haven’t been able to force many turnovers. This defense can get after the quarterback though with Brock MartinCollin Oliver, and Ben Kopenski combining for 10 sacks.

TCU HORNED FROGS BETTING ANALYSIS

The TCU Horned Frogs were on College Gameday last week, and they took care of business against the previously unbeaten Kansas Jayhawks. They have scored at least 38 points in all five of their games this year under new head coach Sonny Dykes, as they have quickly moved on from the Gary Patterson style that had been so successful.

Max Duggan continues to thrive in this offense. The senior is on pace to have his best season yet, as he currently is averaging 10.3 YPA with 14 touchdowns and an interception. Duggan was great in last week’s win over Kansas, throwing for over 300 yards and three touchdowns while also running for 55 yards and a score, and his play is why this offense is ranked ninth in SP+.

Although Dykes runs a version of the Air Raid, TCU runs the ball often, and the Horned Frogs have had plenty of success on the ground. They are averaging 6.6 YPC and have run for 17 touchdowns, as Kendre Miller leads the way here with 474 rushing yards and six TDs.

The big concern for TCU has been the defense. The Horned Frogs rank 99th nationally in total defense (429.8 YPG), and this secondary has had some issues. There isn’t much of a pass rush as TCU has just 10 sacks on the year, so the Horned Frogs are hoping to get more out of Dee Winters and company.
