OKLAHOMA STATE COWBOYS BETTING ANALYSIS

There hasn’t been much growth from Spencer Sanders in his four years as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma State. Sanders is still Mike Gundy’s No. 1 option though, even if he is completing just 58.8% of his passes this year. After two straight down games against Texas Tech and TCU, he had a great outing against Texas last week, completing 34 of 57 passes for 391 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, rewarding Gundy for continuing to stick with him.

Sanders struggled in his first two starts against Kansas State, but he was great against the Wildcats last year. He completed 22 of 34 passes for 344 yards and two touchdowns and is now 3-0 against Kansas State in his career. His mobility has been neutralized by this defense though, as Sanders is averaging just 2.3 YPC in his three starts against the Wildcats.

Braydon Johnson and Bryson Green are big play threats in the passing game, but the ground game hasn’t been too effective. Dominic Richardson has averaged 3.5 YPC or less in five straight games, making this offense somewhat one-dimensional.

Oklahoma State ranks 44th in Defensive SP+. The Cowboys have not posted great numbers on this side of the ball, but they have faced some of the top offenses in the country to date. This will be one of the least explosive offenses they have seen, so they should fare much better than they did in their last few games.

KANSAS STATE WILDCATS BETTING ANALYSIS

At his mid-week press conference, Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman admitted that he is unsure whether starting quarterback Adrian Martinez will be able to take the field this week. Martinez has been dealing with a knee injury for the last few weeks, and he aggravated the injury in last week’s loss to TCU. Will Howard will get the nod if Martinez cannot play, and while he is a mobile threat too, he has a different running style. Whereas Martinez is fast and elusive, Howard is a big bruiser at 6’5 and 235 pounds.

The Wildcats are likely to keep the ball on the ground as much as they can against Oklahoma State, and that could mean a heavy dose of Deuce Vaughn. The 5’6 running back has run for 744 yards and four touchdowns this year, averaging 5.6 YPC. Vaughn was excellent in wins over Oklahoma and Texas Tech, but he hasn’t been used much the last two games, and that should change.

Kansas State ranks 11th in Defensive SP+ coming into this game. The Wildcats have done a good job of forcing opposing quarterbacks into making mistakes with nine interceptions in seven games, and Felix Anudike-Uzomah has been a force with 6.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
