Tennessee Volunteers vs. Georgia Bulldogs Picks, Predictions, Odds
The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs and No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers will clash for SEC East supremacy this weekend. The winner of this game will almost certainly play in the SEC Championship Game next month, while the loser will see their College Football Playoff hopes take a huge hit. This game will be held at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
Tennessee Volunteers vs. Georgia Bulldogs Betting Prediction
Although the Tennessee Volunteers topped the initial College Football Playoff Rankings, they are a sizeable underdog on the road by the CFB betting odds against the Georgia Bulldogs. Tennessee has lost five straight games (and 10 of its last 12) against Georgia, and the Vols' defense will have a hard time stopping the Bulldogs' overpowering ground game. Hendon Hooker will look to prove the naysayers wrong once more, but he will need to put up big numbers for Tennessee to remain unbeaten.
Score Prediction: Georgia 41, Tennessee 24
Best Bet: Georgia -8.5 (-110)

Tennessee Volunteers Betting Analysis
Currently, Hendon Hooker is an even-money bet to win the Heisman Trophy at most online sportsbooks. Hooker has surpassed Ohio State's C.J. Stroud as the perceived likely Heisman Trophy winner, and he has been excellent in Josh Heupel's offense since taking over as the quarterback for Joe Milton early last season. In his nearly two years as Tennessee's quarterback, Hooker has completed almost 70% of his passes for 5,283 yards (10.1 YPA) with 52 touchdowns and four interceptions.
Tennessee is ranked No. 2 in Offensive SP+. This is a very explosive offense under Heupel, and they run at a lightning quick pace in order to keep defenses off balance. Cedric Tillman is back in the lineup again after missing a month due to injury, but Jalin Hyatt has emerged as one of the most dangerous receivers in the country with 45 receptions for 907 yards and 14 touchdowns. Bru McCoy and Ramel Keyton are both averaging 15.0 YPR or more, and Jaylen Wright and Jabari Small are a solid running back tandem.
The Volunteers are ranked 34th in Defensive SP+. They have done a very good job stopping the run, allowing just 3.0 YPC and 95.4 YPG on the ground, but this pass defense has had some problems. Tennessee is allowing 298.6 YPG through the air, and the Vols are a middle of the pack team when it comes to getting to the quarterback. Byron Young is the only player on the team with more than two sacks, so that is who the spotlight will be on this weekend.
Georgia Bulldogs Betting Analysis
Stetson Bennett has Georgia in position to win back-to-back national championships. The Bulldogs are 8-0 and only one of those wins has been by less than 17 points. Bennett has no NFL prospects, but he is a beloved college quarterback because of his gritty nature. He has only thrown for nine touchdown passes in eight games, yet no one is asking for a change under center.
Brock Bowers is one of the most dangerous players in the country. Bowers is an extremely versatile tight end that can be used and trick plays or for deep shots, and he leads Georgia with 31 receptions for 547 yards and three touchdowns. He has also run the ball three times for 82 yards and three TDs, helping supplement a superb ground game. The Bulldogs love to wear down opposing defenses with their ground game, and they are averaging 5.9 YPC and 212.7 YPG on the ground.
Although Georgia lost five first round picks from this defense to the NFL, the Bulldogs have an elite defense once more. They rank 2nd in Defensive SP+, yet they struggle to get after the quarterback with just 10 sacks on the season. This secondary has been excellent, and the linebacking corps has been solid too.
