Alabama Crimson Tide Team Overview
As one of the greatest college sports programs in the history of NCAA athletics, Alabama football speaks for itself. The Crimson Tide’s impressive resume is unmatched on many different levels.
Dating back to 1902, Alabama has won its conference title 28 times. The Tide played in the Southern Conference from 1921 to 1932. They became a charter member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in 1932.
Alabama has won college football’s national championship 14 times. The first title was in 1925 and the team has posted another six championship runs between 2009 and 2020.
The Crimson Tide have appeared in 75 bowl games since postseason play was first instituted in the mid-1920s. Alabama has been ranked in the final Associated Press Top 25 in a total of 59 seasons.
One of the Crimson Tide’s greatest coaches was Bear Bryant. This tenure with the team started in 1959 and it ran all the way through the 1982 football season.
More recently, Nick Saban was named Alabama’s head coach in 2007 and he remains at the helm. Since the College Football Playoff Championship was initiated in 2015, Saban has led his team to the title game six times. Alabama has gone 3-3 in those six contests.
College football’s annual Heisman Trophy is awarded to the nation’s most outstanding player. Since 2009, four different Alabama players have earned that honor. This list includes Mark Ingram, Derrick Henry, DeVonta Smith and Bryce Young.
Alabama’s biggest rival in the SEC is the Auburn Tigers. The two teams meet annually in the final game of the season in what is known as the Iron Bowl.
Legal betting on Alabama as a favorite attracts the most attention. If the Tide were favored by seven points against Auburn on the posted college football point spread, they would have to beat their bitter rivals by eight or more points to pay off on that wager.
Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide in Alabama
Sports betting in Alabama remains illegal with strong conservative ties to the Deep South. However, change may be on the way with recent efforts to update the state’s restrictive gaming laws.
Alabama lawmakers have taken up the task of legalizing sports betting through the proper legislation. The issue at hand could be presented to Alabama voters in the form of a ballot referendum. The best case scenario would add the referendum on legal sports betting to November’s general election in 2022.
Users in other states can use a DraftKings promo code to bet on sports, but Alabama residents and visitors will have to wait.
Until such a change in Alabama law takes place, Alabama football fans can bet on the games in any state offering legal sportsbooks. Betting on sports online remains illegal in Alabama.
