Betting on the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns
College football in Louisiana is big with a number of popular in-state teams. The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns have become an important part of this strong football culture in the state as valued members of the Sun Belt Conference. They are also a popular draw for Louisiana sports bettors at legal retail and online sportsbooks.
Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Team Overview
Louisiana University at Lafayette has a football program that dates back to the 1973 season. Prior to taking up permanent residence in the Sun Belt Conference, Louisiana played as an Independent program for a number of years.
The football program was also part of the Southland Conference and Big West for a limited time before joining the Sun Belt as a charter member in 2001. Over the past two decades plus, the Ragin’ Cajuns have come to define football in this Division IA Mid Major conference.
Another long-standing member of the Sun Belt includes the University Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks as a natural in-state rival.
Head coach Rickey Bustle started his tenure as Louisiana’s head coach in the team’s second season playing in the Sun Belt. He was replaced by Mark Hudspeth in 2011. Under his guidance, the Ragin’ Cajuns started a winning tradition that has led to numerous postseason bowl appearances.
The program has gained a level of national prominence in recent years with Billy Napier at the helm as head coach. Louisiana went 10-1 in 2020 to finish the season ranked No. 15 in the final Associated Press Top 25.
Following an equally impressive 13-1 campaign in 2021, the Ragin’ Cajuns had a final ranking of No. 16 coming off a victory in the New Orleans Bowl against the Marshall Thundering Herd.
As the Sun Belt looks to expand in 2022 with three new members, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns remain the pride of the conference when it comes to college football.
The annual showdown between Louisiana and UL-Monroe will draw quite a bit of in-state betting action. The great way to wager on this game is the OVER on the college football total line. If the total is set at 52 points, these two teams would have to score a combined 53 points or more to post a winning bet.
