Betting on the Oregon State Beavers

College football in the Great Northwest is bolstered on a national level through the Oregon State Beavers’ program. Playing in the Pac-12, Oregon State football has become a popular sports betting draw in states with legal sportsbooks.

Oregon State Beavers Team Overview

The football program at Oregon State University is steeped in history going all the way back to 1916. The Beavers played in the Pacific Coast Conference through the 1958 season. The highlight during that period of time was a pair of trips to the Rose Bowl in 1941 and 1956.

Originally known as the Athletic Association of Western Universities, this football conference grew into the Pac-8 in 1968. This also set the stage to continue the heated annual rivalry between Oregon State and the Oregon Ducks. Dee Andros became the Beavers’ head coach in 1965 and held that role until 1975.

The next expansion of West Coast football on a major level took place in 1978 with the formal change to the Pac-10. Joe Avezzano, Dave Kragthorpe and Jerry Pettibone each served as head coach of Oregon State from the 1980’s through 1996.

The first real taste of success was under the guidance of Dennis Erickson, though. His main claim to fame as a college football head coach was a pair of national title runs with the Miami Hurricanes in the early 1990’s.

Erickson led the Beavers to postseason bowls in three of his four seasons at the helm from 1999 to 2002. Mike Riley also had an impressive run with eight appearances in bowl games from 2003 to 2014. Oregon State was also ranked nationally during five of those 12 seasons with Riley as head coach.

Oregon State has formed some great rivalries over the years playing in the Pac-12’s North Division. Yet, the Beavers’ annual showdown against Oregon attracts the most attention from bettors.

One of the most popular ways to bet this game is through the college football total line. If the game’s total happened to be set at 55 points, Oregon State and Oregon would have to scored a combined 56 points or more to cash a winning bet on the OVER for this particular betting market.

The Oregon Lottery Commission was put in control of sports betting when it was first legalized in 2019. The state’s lottery also operated sports betting through the Scoreboard mobile sportsbook app. As Oregon’s industry evolved, DraftKings was brought in as the only legal commercial sportsbook operator in the state.

Retail sportsbooks in Oregon casinos provide another means for betting on sports in the state, as there are eight federally recognized gaming tribes in OR.

Due to current state law concerning college sports betting, wagering on college football is not available online or at retail sportsbooks in the state.
