Betting on the Oregon Ducks

As one of the most popular college football programs in the Great Northwest, the Oregon Ducks enjoy a very active fan base. This popularity has carried over to betting on the Ducks at in-state tribal casinos during football season.

Oregon Ducks Team Overview

Football at Oregon University in Eugene dates back to the 1916 season. The Ducks started play in the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) that year and actually qualified for the Rose Bowl. They went on to beat the University of Pennsylvania 14-0.

Oregon returned to the Rose Bowl in 1919 but this time around the team lost to Harvard 7-6. A third trip to that prestigious postseason bowl did not take place until 1957. Len Casanova was the Ducks’ head coach at the time. His tenure with the program lasted from 1951 through the 1966 season.

The Ducks became members of the Athletic Association of Western Universities (AAWU) in 1964. Ahead of the 1968 season, the conference was renamed the Pac-8. The first expansion took place in 1978 with two additional teams. The modern day Pac-12 was formed in 2011.

Oregon football was one of the most successful programs on the West Coast during this entire time frame. Behind head coaches such as Rich Brooks, Mike Bellotti and Chip Kelly, the Ducks have won 13 conference championships.

They played in the inaugural College Football Playoff Championship Game in 2014. Unfortunately, Oregon came up short of winning the national title that year in a 42-20 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

NFL quarterback Marcus Mariota was a member of the 2014 team and he went on to win the Heisman Trophy that season as college  football’s most outstanding player.

Playing in the Pac-12 as a charter member, Oregon has formed some great rivalries over the years. Topping the list would be the Oregon State Beavers with both teams playing in the Pac-12 North Division.

Betting the OVER on the total line for this annual rivalry attracts quite a bit of attention. If the betting line for the game’s total was set at 50 points, Oregon and Oregon State would have to score a combined 51 points or more to win that wager.

Betting on the Oregon Ducks in Oregon

When Oregon legalized sports betting in 2019, the Oregon Lottery controlled all online betting through the Scoreboard mobile sportsbook app. More recently, the state turned to DraftKings as the sole commercial sportsbook operator in the marketplace.

Oregon also offers legal retail sports betting through sportsbooks housed in land-based tribal casinos. There are eight federally recognized gaming tribes in the state.

Due to current state law concerning college sports betting, these retail sportsbooks offer the only legal way to bet on Oregon football games in the state.
