AT&T Byron Nelson Picks, Predictions, Odds

The AT&T Byron Nelson has more top golfers than you would think for a tournament that is held right before the PGA Championship. Masters winner Scottie Scheffler will take part in this event as a tune-up for Southern Hills next week, and Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and Dustin Johnson will also be in the Metroplex for this tournament.

We have seen some real changes to TPC Craig Ranch over the last few years. This was a par 70 course from 1978 until 2018 when it shifted to a par 71. The course was lengthened again in 2020, and it became a par 72 last year and it will be a par 72 again in 2022. Although it has been lengthened, we have seen record breaking scores on this 7,468-yard course for the last three tournaments.

WILL ZALATORIS TO WIN (+2400)

Although he has yet to win a tournament on the PGA Tour, there is good value in Will Zalatoris to claim his first title at 24-1. Zalatoris has plenty of experience with TPC Craig Ranch even if he only made his debut at the AT&T Byron Nelson last year. He estimated that he has played this course hundreds of times as he was a junior golfer in the area and still resides in the Metroplex.

Zalatoris has been sharp in his last three events and has a whopping six T7 finishes in his last nine competitions dating back to December. He earned a T5 at the WGC Match Play Championship, a T6 at the Masters after a 67 on Sunday, and a T4 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans a few weeks ago.

SI-WOO KIM TO MAKE CUT (-200)

We have seen Koreans thrive at TPC Craig Ranch as the last two winners of the AT&T Byron Nelson have been Korean. Si-Woo Kim has made the cut in 14 of his last 15 events, so the odds you are getting at bet365 on him to make the cut are a little low.

Kim easily made the cut here last year and was -8 after the first two rounds. He has been a strong competitor on Thursday and Friday this season, averaging 69.8 in the first round and 69.5 in the second round before falling apart over the weekend. Kim is averaging 70.2 on Saturday and 71.1 on Sunday, so he has a habit of making the cut and then drastically tailing off.

JHONATTAN VEGAS TOP 5 (+1000)

There’s good reason to think Jhonattan Vegas can contend at this event. Vegas is in good form with a T4, T18, and T15 finish in his last three events, and he finished 9th here last year. He shot a 67 or less in three of his four rounds, and he has the power to take advantage of this course.
