UPDATE 5:30 P.M. ET SATURDAY: Billy Horschel shot a nondescript 1-over 72 in Round 1. He followed with a solid 3-under 68 for a 2-under 140 total entering the weekend. But he was still flying under the radar.

In the wind and rain Saturday, he shot 2-under 69 and is now alone in the lead, posting a 4-under 209 total. Still, with 11 players sitting within four strokes – including Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele – Horschel is the +550 third choice to win.

But compared with where Horschel was pre-tourney, it's quite a leap. Back in December, The SuperBook opened Horschel at 200/1. Wednesday night, he was out to 250/1, and you could still get +3000 Friday night.

"There is almost no action on Horschel to this point. He would be a welcome result for the book," SuperBook senior risk supervisor Casey Degnon said.

Daniel Brown, another unheralded player, is also still in the mix. He shot 6-under 65 to take the Round 1 lead, and he's hung in with rounds of 72-73 to stand in a six-way tie for second at 3-under 210.

Brown had to survive a qualifier just to get into The Open, and he was 1000/1 Wednesday night.

"It's shocking that Brown is still toward the top of the leaderboard after 54 holes," Degnon said. "We are still very much rooting for him to shock the world. He remains one of our best results."

Major Winners in Pursuit

UPDATE 5:30 P.M. ET SATURDAY: Four major winners are in the mix heading to Sunday, as well: Schauffele, Scheffler, Justin Rose and Shane Lowry.

Schauffele is now the +325 favorite in The SuperBook's Open Championship odds, in from +1200 before the first round. He shot 69 Saturday to join the group at 3-under 210. Schauffele won the PGA Championship – his first major title – in May.

Scheffler shot even-par 71 Saturday and is at 2-under 211. He's the +375 second choice at The SuperBook. Rose, who shot 68-69 in Rounds 1-2, fell back with a 2-over 73, but that still puts him just one off the lead at 210. He's the +800 co-fourth choice.

"Scheffler is a good result for the book. We wouldn't mind seeing him close the gap early and be in contention late," Degnon said. "Schauffele is a small winner for the book. There are others we'd rather see win, but he's not a loser for us.

"We are essentially break-even on Rose. So again, there are worse outcomes, but he wouldn't be our first choice."

Rose was 200/1 pre-tourney at The SuperBook.

Lowry, the 2019 British Open champ, is a more preferred outcome. However, he fell apart Saturday, after seemingly looking ready to grab this tournament by the throat by getting to 8 under early in the round.

Over his last 11 holes, Lowry had five bogeys and one double bogey. He shot 77 and is now at 1-under 212. He's out to +2500, after sitting as the +175 favorite Friday night.

"Lowry would be the second-best outcome of these four, just behind Scheffler. So we wouldn't mind seeing Lowry win his second career major," Degnon said.

Flying Under the Radar

Three more unheralded players are hoping to break through with a major championship win Sunday. Thriston Lawrence, Sam Burns and Russell Henley are all in that group at 3-under 210, one shot behind Horschel.

Henley and Burns were 125/1 before Round 1, while Lawrence was a much-more-distant 600/1. Henley and Burns are now +800, tied with Rose at No. 4 in British Open odds at The SuperBook. Lawrence follows at +1400.

"There were almost no bets on Henley pre-tourney, less than $100 total wagered. There were also almost no bets on Burns pre-tourney, again less than $100 total wagered. And there were zero tickets on Thirston," Degnon said.
