John Deere Classic Picks, Predictions, Odds

Nearly all of the top golfers on the PGA Tour will be taking off for the Fourth of July Weekend. That means a lot of the mid-tier golfers on the tour have a better chance than usual to win the John Deere Classic. Webb Simpson is the overall favorite at 10-1 as he is the most decorated golfer at this event with seven PGA Tour wins in his career, and the only other golfer with odds lower than 22-1 to win the John Deere Classic is Adam Hadwin.

JOHN DEERE CLASSIC BEST BETS

  • Sahith Theegala to Win the John Deere Classic (+2700)
  • Nick Hardy Top 5 Finish (+650)
  • Sahith Theegala Top 5/Scott Stallings Top 10/Nick Hardy Top 20 (+7000)

Sahith Theegala to Win the John Deere Classic

This might be the breakthrough tournament for Sahith Theegala. The rookie has looked strong this season with a T2 at the Travelers Championship, a T3 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, and a T5 at the Memorial. He has five T10 finishes in total during his debut season, and it looks like he is putting it all together.

Theegala is one of the golfers that stands to benefit the most from the weak field at TPC Deere Run. Two of his best three performances have come in June, so he is in his best form yet, and he has a good chance of picking up his first win.

Nick Hardy Top 5 Finish

It’s never a bad idea to roll with local products in weak fields. There is value in Nick Hardy to win the John Deere Classic at 33-1, but I’m going to be a little more conservative and just take Hardy to finish T5. Hardy hails from Northbrook, Illinois and went to school at the University of Illinois, so he has plenty of experience with this course. He is coming off a solid T8 finish at the Travelers Championship last week, and he ranks 18th on the PGA Tour in GIR.

Hardy made the cut in his two previous appearances in this tournament in 2017 and 2018, but he has had to cut his teeth on the Korn Ferry Tour recently. His return has the potential to be very rewarding.

Sahith Theegala Top 5/Scott Stallings Top 10/Nick Hardy Top 20

I like Theegala and Hardy this week, so I’m happy taking a risk with Scott Stallings to finish T10 for a potentially massive payoff. Stallings has four T10 finishes this season, and two of those finishes were in his last four events. He rebounded from a first round 74 at the Travelers Championship to finish T8 following a 63 on Sunday. Stallings has three T18 finishes in his last five trips to TPC Deere Run, and he finished T5 here in 2017.
