Rocket Mortgage Classic Picks, Predictions, Odds
Tony Finau came through for us last week, so let’s try to make it two in a row at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. This week’s field is a little more competitive than what we saw last week at TPC Twin Cities, but many of the top names on the PGA Tour are still taking some time off after The Open Championship two weeks ago. Patrick Cantlay and Will Zalatoris are taking aim at this event, and they are two of the three favorites alongside Finau.

The 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic was created alongside the 3M Open in 2019 as part of a mid-summer Midwestern swing on the PGA Tour. This tournament takes place at Detroit Golf Club, and it will run from July 28-31, 2022.
ROCKET MORTGAGE CLASSIC BEST BETS
- Will Zalatoris to win the Rocket Mortgage Classic (+1500)
- Patrick Cantlay Top 10 Finish (+140)
- Chris Kirk Top 30 Finish (+115)
WILL ZALATORIS TO WIN THE EVENT (+1500)
There’s a good chance that Will Zalatoris finally picks up his first PGA Tour win here in Detroit on Sunday. Zalatoris is arguably the best golfer that has yet to win on the PGA Tour in his career, but he has come awfully close. He finished runner-up at the Farmers Insurance Open, the PGA Championship, and the US Open, and he has eight T10 finishes on the year.
Zalatoris fell apart over the weekend here last year. He was -6 through the first two rounds, but he proceeded to shoot a 74 on Saturday and a 76 on Sunday to finish even par. The 25-year-old is at the top of his game, ranking 15th in driving distance and 6th in GIR, so this is a great opportunity for Zalatoris to pick up his first win.
PATRICK CANTLAY TOP 10 FINISH (+140)
Given his performance over the last three months, Patrick Cantlay is the clear favorite to win the Rocket Mortgage Classic. If you take out his disappointing performance at the PGA Championship two months ago, Cantlay has gone T2, 1st, T3, T14, T13, T4, and T8 in his last seven events. He has nine T10 finishes and 11 T25 finishes in his 16 events this year, as he always seems to be in the mix.
This will be Cantlay’s first appearance at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He isn’t particularly stellar in any one thing, but his all-around game is great, and that has Cantlay ranked eighth in scoring average this season. The 30-year-old won four PGA Tour events last season, and he should be in serious contention throughout the week.
CHRIS KIRK TOP 30 FINISH (+115)
It’s been seven years since Chris Kirk’s last win on the PGA Tour, and he’s a longshot to win the Rocket Mortgage Classic this week. However, Kirk has played well at Detroit Golf Club the last two years with a T21 finish in 2020 and a T12 finish in 2021, so a T30 finish isn’t a lot to ask of the 37-year-old from Georgia.
Kirk has made the cut in 16 of his 22 tournaments this season, and he has eight T25 finishes to his credit. His familiarity with this course coupled with the paucity of top talent at this event means that he is likely to finish T30 for the third straight year.
