2022 BMW CHAMPIONSHIP PICKS

There is a lot of mystery headed into the 2022 BMW Championship. This tournament used to take place almost exclusively in the Midwest, but it has since seen rotating hosts east of the Continental Divide. The 2022 edition is being held at Wilmington Country Club in Delaware, making this the first PGA Tour event to ever take place in Delaware. Justin Thomas is the only golfer in the 68-player field that has played at this course before, but that was nine years ago, and the course has seen an overhaul since that point.

This is the penultimate tournament of the 2021-22 PGA Tour season, and there will be no cut this week. The top 30 golfers in the FedEx Cup Rankings after this event will advance to the TOUR Championship next week in Atlanta. Once again, Rory McIlroy is considered the top dog by the oddsmakers, but he missed the cut at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week.

The 2022 BMW Championship is the second of three events in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. This tournament will be played on the South Course of Wilmington Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware from August 18-21, 2022. It is a par 71 course that is over 7,500 yards long, so big hitters will have an advantage.

JON RAHM TO WIN THE EVENT (+1500)

After being named PGA Player of the Year and winning the Vardon Trophy last season, Jon Rahm hasn’t been as dominant during the 2021-22 campaign. Rahm’s only win came at the Mexico Open, and he only has three T3 finishes this season. He had just one T10 finish in his five tournaments after that win at Vidanta, but he is coming off his strongest performance in three months.

Rahm was superb throughout the week at TPC Southwind. He went 67-69-67-66 for a T5 finish at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and led the field in GIR. This is a course where Rahm should have a lot of success considering he is ranked 1st in GIR and 3rd in driving distance.

COLLIN MORIKAWA TOP 5 FINISH (+450)

Given the smaller field this week, the T5 odds aren’t as big as we usually see for a PGA Tour event. However, there is a lot to like about Collin Morikawa at +450 to be one of the top five golfers at Wilmington CC. Morikawa finished T5 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week, and he posted a nearly identical scorecard to Rahm.

Morikawa has been boom or bust in his last 10 tournaments. He finished T5 at the Masters, the US Open, and at last week’s event, but he didn’t place T25 in any of the other seven tournaments. Morikawa is guaranteed to play all four rounds this week since there is no cut, and he has had a lot of success at new venues over the last few years.

JON RAHM TO BEAT RORY MCILROY (-102)

Rory McIlroy is the overall favorite to win the BMW Championship. Most analysts expect him to be in contention this week at Wilmington CC, but they thought that last week at TPC Southwind, and he ended up missing the cut. McIlroy ranks 2nd in driving distance, yet he has had a lot of trouble with his accuracy. He scrambles well and is in position to win the Vardon Trophy this year, but Rahm will have an easier time getting to the green in Delaware.
