1 – Dr. Post (5/2)

Ran well to finish second to Tiz the Law in the Belmont last out when beaten just under four lengths. Won two in a row, including a minor stakes in his lone two turn start, at Gulfstream. I questioned how far he wanted to go last out and he proved me wrong. “Jersey” Joe Bravo picks up the mount for this.

2 – Authentic (4/5)

Was beaten soundly by Honor A.P. when he tasted defeat for the first time in four starts in the Santa Anita Derby, his lone try at this distance. Curious to see how he’s handled in the early going as there appears to be others in here who do their best work on or near the lead like he does. Baffert won eight of 15 runnings of this at one point with the last coming in 2015 with Triple Crown champion American Pharoah.

3 – Jesus’ Team (15/1)

Came running with Sole Volante in an allowance/optional claimer at Gulfstream most recently. Former claimer makes his first start around two turns on dirt in his stakes debut. Taking a huge step up in class.

4 – Ancient Warrior (20/1)

Winless in his four starts since taking his debut at Del Mar in his lone start as a two-year-old. Son of red-hot sire Constitution will be making his stakes debut and first start beyond six-and-a-half furlongs.

5 – Fame to Famous (30/1)

Just one for nine in his career, he’s done his better work on turf as he finished last of 11 in his lone dirt start, the Risen Star at the Fair Grounds, back in February.

6 – Lebda (20/1)

Won a couple of minor stakes at Laurel this winter before setting the pace and tiring in the Ohio Derby, his first start off a three-month layoff, most recently. Could cause some of chaos for some of the other front-runners in here as he gets a stiff class test.

7 - Ny Traffic (7/2)

Has gotten himself involved in some tussles on the prolonged Derby Trail this year and always seems to give a good account of himself. Problem is he never wins them. I have a feeling Saturday might be his day. He’s drawn outside and should be able to work out the best trip of the three choices.
