Home Run Derby odds arguably highlight the U.S. betting market at the moment. Which if nothing else signals one thing: It's the slowest week on the sports betting calendar.

Still, it's a popular market. Bettors enjoy getting involved with odds to win the Home Run Derby. New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is the favorite, but the top of the board is crowded in the field of eight sluggers.

UPDATE 1:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: Alonso opened -310 in BetMGM's Home Run Derby odds. And that's where he sits a few hours before tonight's 8 p.m. ET festivities at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

The Mets standout is going for his third Home Run Derby crown, having won in 2019 and 2021. Bettors are certainly intrigued by the Polar Bear.

"Alonso leads in both tickets and money. He's our worst result," BetMGM trader Hal Egeland. "It's a pretty balanced book overall, though, with Gunnar Henderson being the only other loser for us currently.

"I do expect Alonso liability to grow throughout the day. But even as our worst result, it's not a big number."

Others Drawing Dollars

UPDATE 1:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: Henderson, the Baltimore Orioles shortstop, opened as the +575 fourth choice in BetMGM's odds to win the Home Run Derby. He's now the +375 second choice.

"Henderson is our second-most bet, and the amount of tickets is actually very close to the Polar Bear. But the bigger money is coming in on the former champ," Egeland said.

Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. opened as the +625 fifth choice and is now the +500 fourth choice.

"Witt is seeing some decent action, too. He could end up being a loser for us by the time this starts," Egeland said.

Atlanta Braves designated hitter Marcell Ozuna is the +425 third choice, down a bit from his +375 opener. Texas Rangers right fielder Adolis Garcia is fifth at +600, slipping from +400.

Rest of the Field

UPDATE 1:30 P.M. ET MONDAY: Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Teoscar Hernandez, Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez and Philadelphia Phillis third baseman Alec Bohm round out the eight-slugger field.

Hernandez is the +1100 sixth choice in BetMGM's Home Run Derby odds, after opening +1200. Ramirez follows at +1200, in slightly from his +1400 opener, and Bohm is +2000. Bohm opened +2500 and got as short as +1600, but slid back this afternoon.

Egeland said Ramirez's bat speed might make him worth a look among the longer shots.
