The Lakers are third and the Warriors are fifth in the Western Conference standings as the regular season comes to a close.

The Lakers are going for the season sweep against the Warriors after taking the first three matchups.

In the last contest, the Lakers defeated the Warriors 120-112 on Feb. 6. It was a classic duel between future Hall of Fame members LeBron James and Stephen Curry. James amassed 42 points, 17 rebounds, and eight assists. Meanwhile, Curry went for 37 points and seven rebounds.

This is the first game between the teams since the Lakers added Luka Doncic and the Warriors picked up Jimmy Butler. The additions have paid major dividends for each team. The Lakers are 14-8 with Luka while the Warriors are even better at 19-4 with Butler in the lineup.

The Lakers have won two games in a row after beating the Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets. The Warriors are on a three-game winning streak after Curry’s 52-point eruption pushed them past the Grizzles on April 1.

The Lakers explosive trio of James, Doncic and Austin Reaves combine for an eye-popping 71.5 points per game.

The Warriors will have to ratchet up their defense to the highest level to slow down the Lakers’ offensive focal points. Golden State is certainly capable though with fierce defenders like Butler and Draymond Green. The Warriors are seventh in defensive rating.

Interestingly, the Lakers have improved defensively since trading Anthony Davis. The Lakers are 11th in defensive rating after getting rid of the five-time All-Defensive Team big man.

The Warriors are fourth in the league in 3-pointers made per game (15.4) and Curry is the main reason.

Containing Curry from beyond the arc is the top priority but obviously easier said than done. However, the Lakers have enough size on the perimeter to at least challenge Curry.

The Lakers are favored by 1.5 points and the total is set for 229.0 at bet365. For the moneyline, it’s +105 Warriors and -125 Lakers.

With both teams playing their best basketball down the stretch, this should be an extremely close game that could come down to the final seconds.

The Warriors will cover the spread and avoid the sweep with a road victory.
